McCulloch Steam Cleaner - MC1275  —

I received the McCulloch MC1275 Steam Cleaner last December as a Christmas gift.  My boyfriend knew how much time and effort it was taking me to keep up with the weekly bird cage cleaning and had heard me mention that other people use steam cleaners to get the job done in a fraction of the amount of time.  He paid about $100 for it from an online retailer.

It's very easy to set up and use.  It comes with a measuring cup and funnel to get the water into the tank.  If you add 3 of the cups of water to the tank, it will be full and will produce up to an hour of continuous steam.  It has a long hose which makes it easy to use without having to drag the canister around behind you.  The McCulloch MC1275 Steam Cleaner comes with several different scrubbing attachments that you can connect to the end of the hose, including a squeegee, a large brush, a triangle-shaped head, and several small round scrubbers.

The first time I used this steam cleaner I used one of the small round scrubbing attachments to clean the individual bars of the bird cages.  After an hour, the cages were clean but the scrubber was completely destroyed.  After that experience, I haven't used any of the other attachments.  Nowadays I just use the small attachments to direct the steam and then I wipe down the bars with a regular Scotch-Brite sponge.  It is much easier to clean dirty bird cages with this steam cleaner.  The steam softens up the poop and most of the time you just need to wipe it off.  Occasionally there's a tough spot that requires some scrubbing but it is still much less work than it was before I got this product.

I haven't had any problems with the McCulloch MC1275 Steam Cleaner in the ten months that I've owned it.  The owner's manual mentioned letting a water and white vinegar solution soak in the tank for a couple of hours if the machine develops mineral buildup (which will interfere with the steam pressure) but I haven't had any issues with that thus far.

I would recommend this steam cleaner to anyone who is looking for an affordable and reliable machine.  The scrubbing attachments aren't particularly durable but you can use a regular sponge to clean surfaces instead.  I'm very happy with it.
