Maytag Quiet Series 200 —

My wife and I have lived in our house for the past five years. For the first four years we were living without a dishwasher and simply washing dishes by hand. As most people can attest, this became a very tasking chore. We had always been talking about getting a dishwasher, but never really felt it was something we needed. Push came to shove when we suddenly realized that we had developed the horrible habit of letting dishes pile up in the sink for days a time. This was the final straw!
We looked into a number of dishwashers, mostly with help from the most recent Consumer Report about dishwashers. We knew that we needed something that would fit into our budget. I'm the type of person that would find a way to justify needing the most fancy, shmancy, thing out there. Fortunately, my wife is always able to put things into a more practical perspective. We finally decided on the Maytag Quiet Series 200. It had some really good reviews in Consumer Report and it was also not a huge hit to the wallet!
Now, obviously going from no dishwasher to a dishwasher is going to make a huge difference in one's opinion. However, I feel pretty confident in my experience with dishwashers in my past and I must say this dishwasher is pretty darn good! The first and most obvious feature about it is that it is extremely quiet! The dishwasher also has three different rotating propellers inside, which means powerful cycles and no dish untouched by water. I must admit, I am still in the habit of scrubbing certain dishes down before putting them into the dishwasher, but my wife swears that even dishes and pans with caked on food that she has put in come out spotless!
So, here is the kicker. There are two things about this dishwasher that I feel could be a little bit better.
The first thing: the design of the door is such that when you load the dishes onto the bottom rack, it is REALLY LOW TO THE GROUND! You never would think about it when you load dishes, but after a while you start to realize how much you are bending your back to put them in. Again, it is really just a design flaw of the machine. I think that if they made the door higher at the hinge it would not be able to accommodate a lot of dishes.
The second thing: The configuration of the rack spikes, or whatever you call them, are not exactly the most easy to work with in terms of efficiently putting in dishes. There are certain times when I will feel like I am literally playing Tetris to get something in. Now granted, some people would say just fit what you can and then wash more later. But if that were the case then you would be spending more water and soap on less dishes. Not the most ideal situation if you ask me!
Overall, I do feel that this dishwasher is pretty great. The fact that it is really quiet and pretty powerful makes it really worth the money.

I have the Maytag Quiet Series 300, and it is no better than the 200 series from what I read in your review. Just how quiet should quiet be anyhow?
