"They don't make 'em like they used to." That is what the Maytag representative told me when I called about having to replace my compressor a second time in less than fourteen months. I was disappointed to say the least. We had also replaced the ice cube maker in the first six months we owned this appliance.
I deliberately bought Maytag because I believed they made a top quality product. The first compressor went out less than two months after we bought the fridge. The second went out a year later. We owned our previous refrigerator for twenty years and never replaced anything.
I will never pay extra for a Maytag again. The service was miserable. The representatives I spoke to were rude, arrogant, and refused to take responsibility for their products. I also bought a microwave, dishwasher, and stove at the same time we got the fridge. The dishwasher died after six months... a bad handle made of cheap plastic. When the repairman replaced it, he said that he replaces them all the time. The replacement part was made of metal and should last me. The microwave had a bad magnitron from the getgo. It was replaced twice, but the unit is still noisy. We have had no problems with the stove.
Rumor has it that Maytag is under new management who are determined to return the company to its former high quality, top-notch service self. I hope this is true.
