Performa Really Performs!

4

This Maytag Performa portable dishwasher is a great appliance at a reasonable price. We bought ours because we rent a house that is too old to install a dishwasher. I was quite skeptical when my husband brought this appliance home because I assumed it would only clean mild to moderately dirty dishes. I was surprised when I put it to the test with spaghetti for a family of six! The only reason this appliance does not get a '10' is because it isn't as quiet as I thought it would be. This is not a big issue, as I run it at night while my children sleep. All around, though we've had ours for about two years and have had no problems! Noise Level As I stated, I expected the appliance to be quieter, as advertised. Since we have a small house with an open floor plan, I as hoping for less noise so that I could run the dishwasher during the day. This isn't the case, however. I use it at night though with no issue. Cleaning Time The Maytag Performa takes around two hours to complete a cycle. This isn't an extremely long time, but it is not for the impatient. This is not a major issue for myself, but could be for other consumers who have a limited amount of time to complete their chores. Loading Flexibility I believe that the loading flexibility is pretty average for this appliance. Considering it is small and portable, space is going to be limited. I have no issue with washing dishes for a family of six and unless it is a major holiday, I only run my Maytag Performa once a day. Performance I am very impressed with the performance of this machine. My dishes come out clean every time I use it. I have only had a couple of issues in two years, and those were due to food that happened to stick to a particular pan while cooking. Again, this is a fabulous appliance at this price and I was quite surprised. Design The dishwasher is lightweight and easy to maneuver. I like that it has a smooth counter-like surface that makes it blend in with the rest of my kitchen. The design is also uncomplicated and pretty much fool-proof. Durability I have four children under the age of six, and none of them have managed to damage my dishwasher! I have not had any malfunctions, repairs, or other mechanical issues either.

The Maytag Portable Dishwasher gets dishes clean, BUT...

I've had this dishwasher now for almost two years, and in that time, the gasket connecting to the faucet has broken twice. The first time it was under warranty, since it broke after using it about two months, so Maytag sent someone to repair it for me. The second time, the gasket started leaking so badly that the only way to control it was to tape it with plumber's tape every time I wanted to use it. When I spoke to an appliance repair person about coming out to fix it, he said it's a common problem with these dishwashers. All I know is that it's frustrating to have an appliance be so poorly made that it breaks twice in as many years. On the plus side, however, the dishwasher does a good job of cleaning the dishes, I'll give it that. But using it is pretty inconvenient, especially since I used to have a built-in dishwasher at my last house, so I know what I'm missing! Nonetheless, it's a lot better than washing by hand -- WHEN it works, that is!

Performa Dishwasher by Maytag does not perform!

1

When we purchased our Maytag Performa dishwasher a few years ago, I was looking forward to a product that lived up to it's claims - a quiet, efficient, dishwasher that doesn't malfunction and melt my plasticware.   How silly of me to expect so much! Problem number one with the Performa - it doesn't perform it's basic function - to wash dishes.  Or at least to wash them well!  I can't tell you how many times I've had to re-wash my dishes (not even pots and pans), just your basic, average dish or glass.   Usually, I just end up washing them by hand.   Residue builds up constantly in the glasses if they are in the corners of the upper basket.  So, just don't put them there, right?  Sure, then you lose out on space. Problem number two - quiet???  Nope, noisier than my old one.  Something I thought wasn't possible.   Problem number three - the heating element for drying went bad and decided to melt a bunch of my dishwasher safe plastic containers and lids.   Solution - buy a new element, or save your money and have your handy-dandy hubby just snip the wire.  No more element, no more hazard.  Which is nice to know, except then the dishwasher never seems to dry completely on the inside and starts to have a very undesirable smell.   And, yes, we've cleaned, several times - which brings us to the next problem. Problem number four - not easy to clean.   At least with my old dishwasher, the parts came apart very easily for cleaning.  Not this one.   Which most likely does not help the smell problem.  Even after using commercial cleaners, baking soda, vinegar, bleach - nope, still stinks. Solution - well, I could buy a new dishwasher.  So I went out this morning - and voila - installed it myself - dish tub, dish drainer, gloves, and a scrubbie.   Works for me - and much better than my Performa.

Makes me feel like I'm doing more to keep my family healthy

Our Maytag performa portable dishwasher is a wonderful appliance.  It is the first dishwasher we have ever owned and now I do not know how we managed without it.It features light, normal, and heavy wash cycles, or rinse only.  It also has an extended wash cycle for really yucky pots and pans.  You can also choose an heated drying mode or water temperature boost. Our Maytag Performa dishwasher has never needed to be serviced which reminds me of the classic Maytag repairman television commercial that depicts Maytag repairmen as having the lonliest  jobs. Our Maytag Performa portable dishwasher makes me feel like I am doing more to keep my family healthy.  It amazes me have clean and germ free my dishes appear compared to hand washing them.   My only complaint is the roominess, I find it difficult to arrange dishes in it so I can get the really large dutch ovens positioned well.  Overall, however, I would recommend the Maytag line of dishwashers.  They do live up to their reputation.

We bought this Maytag portable dishwasher when we had to rent a house w/ out one.  We had bought a similar dishwasher years before, and had no problems.  Our first problem was that the nozzle that hooked on to the sink spigot leaked the very first time we used it.  This warranted the first callto the repair man--he had to put on a brand new nozzle.  Not long after that first issue, the hoses became stuck in the back--meaning that they would not come back out for us to use the dishwasher, we had to call the repair man who had to take apart the dishwasher and fix the hoses.  It worked fine for a while, then the same thing happened with the hoses, they would not come out of the back--only the second time, the plastic surrounding that holds the the hoses in the back of the dishwasher broke, slicing a hole in one of the hoses. So now we have three issues, the hoses are stuck, the plastic surrounding is broke, and there is a hole in the hose.

Okay dishwasher...gets the dishes clean

The Maytag Performa does its job well, but could use some upgrades.  The connection that hooks to the faucet began leaking a few months ago so we replaced a part...just when I thought the problem was fixed, it just began leaking again.
