I can't think of anything that I don't like about the Maytag Neptune (I have both the washer and dryer.) We have had this set since our house was completed in 2001. The only problem we have ever had with it was an issue with the dryer not heating properly, but it was under warranty and fixed easily in a couple of hours by a technician. We have never had a problem since with either the washer or the dryer.
Both the washer and dryer run quietly. The only time I hear the washer is during a spin cycle with a full load. The washer has several wash cycles that really allow you to use it for anything this is washable. The cycles include: Cotton/Sturdy, Delicates, Hand Wash & Wrinkle Free. I use cotton/sturdy & delicates cycles most often but I have also used hand wash on some of my washable hand knits and it worked beautifully without causing stretching, shrinkage or pilling. It also has settings for Spin Only, Rinse Only, a Quick Cycle and settings for Light, Normal or Heavily soiled items. You can also add a Presoak cycle, a Stain cycle, and Extra Rinse cycle. Plus you can set it to Max Extract so that your clothes are spun extra dry so drying time is shorter. It has 4 temp settings: Hot/Cold, Warm/Cold, Cold/Cold & Warm/Warm. Finally there is also a Delay Wash setting so you can load your clothes and detergent and set the washer to start up to 9 hours later. It's really convenient and I often put a load in before I go to bed, set it for 8 hours later and it's ready to put in the dryer when I get up and it hasn't sat wet in the washer all night. As soon as I get up, I throw it in the dryer and by the time I'm done showering and getting ready for the day, it's dry and ready to go.
I am really anal about stains on clothes, especially my baby's clothes. After using pretreater, I often used the stain cycle and I find this works really well to get stains out. I have also used presoak for really tough stains or heavily soiled clothes. I also like being able to just rinse something. Occassionally I have used this rinse only to rinse a load of baby clothes to make sure that all of the detergent is rinsed out. I also love the detergent dispensers. I put the detergent, bleach and/or fabric softener in all at the beginning and the machine dispenses them at the appropriate time.
The washer measures out only enough water for the size of the load you are doing, which is great and saves money. The dryer also had an effieciency Sensor Dry setting that drys the clothing until it is as dry as you want it. There is also a timed drying setting that you can set for up to 75 minutes I think. There is a temperature range from very low heat to regular heat with 4 increments and range of dryness from damp to very dry with 5 increments. There are also Wrinkle Prevent, Wrinkle Release and Air Fluff settings. I usually use the extra low heat setting with a mid-range dryness setting on my clothes to prevent shrinkage and it takes about an hour for a normal load. I have also used the Wrinkle Release setting which has worked nicely on heavily wrinkled items made of cotton and polyester. I really don't have any complaints about these machines. I love them.
