I purchased the Maytag Neptune about 4 years ago. After about 1 year of having it it begam to smell of mildew, even my clothes would smell like mildew. I would even have to redo loads if they weren't immediately removed from the washer. Now, half of the rubber casket is covered in mold/mildew. I am still using it, but hating every time I have to use it. I contacted Maytag back when the problem first started. After doing some research I discovered there has been a class action lawsuit against Maytag for several problems with this washer. I wasn't notified about the suit, not sure why, so I don't get any assistance from Maytag on the matter. I will not ever buy Maytag again!!!!

I took pictures of the mold today as we took it out to the curb. I also took a picture of the serial numbers on back. I love my new top loader too. Can't believe how fast it does a load.

I am going to continue to check to see if there is anything we can do.

I never found out about another suit. We got rid of ours and got a new top loader and I love it!! I did take pics of the mold before we got rid of it, just in case we needed them in the future.

Exact same issue!!!! Never notified of suit; company will do nothing. Tried several cleaning tactics-nothing works! I break out in small, itchy hives on my arms when I do the laundry.

We are having the same issues...never was notified of the class action suit. I agree...how do we get something going with a new suit?

Same thing. Purchased four years ago, and was never told about the problems or the lawsuit. I am now looking into a new top loader. Nothing suggested removed the mold. I think there should be another class action suit, since these machines were, and still are, being manufactured with the same problems. This time we need to go after Whirlpool, who recently purchased Maytag.

I'm not sure if we have had any health issues from it or not. My son had RSV as an infant and has asthma symptoms once or twice a year, that usually lead to being on a nebulizer for a few weeks. He has ended up in the hospital a couple times since as well. I don't doubt that the mold may have contibuted to his breathing problems, but not 100% sure they are the only cause. i only know that I am so happy to be rid of that mold machine! I love my new top loading washer.

We just broke down and got a top loading washer(Kenmore). I have never been so excited about doing laundry-and not smelling mold!!

momworking wrote on Sep 22, 2008 at 2:24PM

Kenmore is the same. Mold & mildew in door gasket. I use clorox and water (50/50) to spray then rinse cycle only. It does OK until i use a hot water wash. I'll not have another front loader!!!
