Maytag Neptune - Front Load Washer Model #MAH9700 —

Have had my Neptune for 4 years.  It saves me about $10 a month on our water bill.   But even after I do what the manufacturer says, there is still MILDEW on the rubber seal around the tub.  I DON'T like the mildew. A serviceman comes every year, as I pay to keep extending the warranty, and they either cannot or will not get the mildew out, either.  I have not recommended the machine to any of my friends.  After owning the machine for 2 years, I was glad I had bought the warranty, because the 'computer' in the wash selection knob went bad.  I was told it would have cost me $300 to replace the mechanism. I wanted a Maytag because another friend told me about its reliability, but she had a top-load machine, not a front loader.  I am unhappy with my washing machine, and because I paid around $1000 for it, I cannot go out and buy different machine!  I feel like Maytag should offer to replace the machine.

I owned the original version of the Neptune and the new version. I have never had a problem with mildew in either machine. I generally wash one load of white towels a week with bleach and hot water. I don't know if this is what has kept my washers fresh or not. But I have never had a mildew problem. I hope this helps. Probably could use bleach and warm or cold water as well.
