Maytag Front Loader Washing Machine —

We replaced our Maytag older top loader with a new expensive Maytag H.E. machine. While it is quiet and uses less water, I am dismayed at how dingy the whites are. I have tried everything, bleach, sanitary cycle, oxygenated products, Tide for H.E. machines and Cheer for H.E. machines. The only marginal success is with much fewer items per load and shorter wash cycles. My theory is that with less water, the dirt and detergent are forced into the fabric by the rolling action of the washer. I will never purchase another H.E. machine. It takes more time and water to process laundry than my old top loader to get CLEAN white clothes.

When I discussed this with the factory representative they were in denial and unsympathetic, offering no solutions. I had to figure it out myself. H.E. Machine purchasers, beware!!

I had purchased the new Samsung Steam HE machine. Did not have trouble with dingy whites for the first few months, then every load of whites was very dingy. I have always used Tide HE, HE bleach, HE machine cleaners. When I called Samsung for a service call, the rep had the nerve to say it was not in their call script manual and therefore would NOT send someone out for service. Purchased it at Lowe's and after much discussion with the Lowe's manager, a repair company did come out. They said dingy whites are a problem with too much detergent. I explained to him what products I used and how much, less than mfr. recommended since I have a water softener mind you, and still was told I'm the cause. Repair person called Samsung while at my home and they said they did not want me to use more than 1 (ONE) Teaspoon of HE soap! I laughed but agreed to do this until he returned (two weeks later with parts for my dryer). No change whatsoever, other than the fact that my clothes were even more dirty and did not smell well. So, now that I have a $1400 washing machine...I may be saving some water and cost of soap, but have to throw away my whites and replace them every couple of months...where is the environmental impact there???
