As a make-up Artist, its my job to make the Bride look great.  I have never failed when using Maybelline Mascaras.  I like to use the waterproof kind for weddings, of course.  I have access to many professional makeup lines but Maybelline is still my first choice when it comes to mascara.  With a great price and creamy consistancy that goes on the lashes without clumping, you just can't beat it.  I don't usually use the thicking formulas, just apply multiple coats to get the same effect without putting on to much in one coat.  Sort of like when you apply nail polish.  Its better to apply thin coats but more than one to get a great coverage.  Don't forget to curl the lashes first.
