Maya Wrap Baby Sling Review Summary

Maya Wrap Baby Slings overwhelmingly scored a positive rating from our reviewers. Though it is comfortable, cool, great for breastfeeding mothers and allows hand-free carrying, it has some cons as well. The rings slip, it is difficult to position the baby on the Maya Wrap Baby Sling and it can be hard on the shoulders. Chingue describes it as a "frustrating learning curve." A handful of parents couldn't figure out how to use the sling, but Jessica said, "My favorite thing about the Maya Wrap is its versatility." Other reviewers judged the Maya Wrap Baby Sling based on the looks of it alone. Most agree that it looks stylish, but unsafe. One father of 3, Vytas, said "I was carrying our baby in ways that I never imagined safe or possible."

I learned about this unstructured ring-sling style carrier when my baby was about three months old. Until then, I used a Baby Bjorn to carry her but it was starting to get painful as she got heavier. The Maya Wrap caught my eye because the fabric was gorgeous, and I saw a petite young woman using one...

Ahhh.... yes.... I am becoming accustomed to being the one swimming against the current. I purchased a Maya Wrap sling when my son was a newborn. Beyond watching the DVD (repeatedly), and enduring several frustrating attempts to love the thing... it went to eBay.

I am an experienced baby-wearer who has owned about 10 different slings, wraps, pouches, and back carriers. The Maya Wrap was the best, most versatile, most comfortable, easiest to use product I owned. Beyond early infancy, it was always my first choice.

It is lightweight, making it very portable, good for all temperatures/seasons, and comfortable to wear without the child in it (important with toddlers who are in and out a lot). It is also very easty to easy to pop a child in/out of the Maya Wrap, even a sleeping baby.

It's also really comfortable. It doesn't have any padding in the shoulder...

This is a product that one would expect a mother to review, but being a father of three young kids, I have to say that the Maya Wrap exceeded all of my expectations. When I first saw this "long piece of cloth with two sizable metal rings at one end" I was skeptical. Being a tech geek, I tend to gravitate to more contemporary solutions to age old problems - surely the Baby Bjorn type carriers (we did own a carrier from Medela - but did not find it as useful or comfortable) are more comfortable and practical than a simple piece of cloth from ages past. I was flat wrong!

After watching the video that...

I was fortunate enough to receive a Maya Wrap from a friend after the birth of my oldest.  It took a little getting used to but the learning curve is steep and within a week, I felt comfortable wearing my baby every where I went.  I continued to wear her in crowded places like the zoo and stores up until I got too far along ( and she got too heavy) in my second pregnancy.  The new baby was in the wrap from day one and is still a fan of it (she's 2) when hikes and trips to the zoo are too long for her.  The thing I love about it is that closeness that I have with both of my girls that came from... review »

Maya Wrap ring slings are wonderful! They are so versatile, fit a range of sizes. Ours can be used by both myself (5'3") and my husband (6 feet). They requre some practice, but come with a very informative instructional DVD that provides all the tips and tweaks you need. When my son was born, I watched the video and popped him right in the sling. We've been using it ever since - even while I was pregnant with my second. It's the BEST for breastfeeding, because the tail can be used for coverage. It's also great as a burp cloth or blanket - lots of versatility!

Now, little sister is worn daily...

I would highly recommend the Maya Wrap baby carrier!  It makes life with a baby so much easier!  My son was "high need" and had asthma, and always wanted to be held.  The Maya allowed for hands free carrying, so I could meet my sons needs and get a few things done around the house.  I used the Maya until my son was almost 4 years old.  It is great for nursing in public, as well.  The fabrics are beautiful, and the handy velcro pouch is great for a diaper and your keys.  It can take a little getting used to, but well worth the effort.

I love baby wraps! I tried my friend's wrap out and knew I just had to have one! I am a little thrifty and thought $30 was a bit much to pay for a baby sling. I found a website online that had directions to make your own. I thought I would give it a try....I am new at sewing and thought this would be a good project for me! Anyway, $7.50 later I had my own sling. I choose the fabic at the local store and it matched my personality. My sling works just as well as her expensive sling!

Our son hated the car seat from day one and we used to have to carry him everywhere. My husband would use the bjorn but being large chested I always had a problem with it. One day in costco I was holding J as usual and a woman came up to me and said that she had seven kids (yeah 7!) and the maya wrap saved her life. I ordered one that day and almost a year and half later I haven't looked back! J is so much happier when we are out and about being worn and I got my hands back to actually do stuff! J is 18 months, 30lbs and still fits comfortably in maya wrap. I keep him in a hip carry most of... review »

I had a 26 week premature baby and bought the Maya Wrap from the lactation consultant in the hospital.  It came highly recommended and I am very happy with it.  It was great to wear my baby everywhere.  I kangarooed him in the NICU every day of the 97 days he was in the hospital so wearing him was very important for both of us. He thrived on being worn and this wrap made it very easy.  It was great for him as a very tiny baby when he first got home until much larger and he would often sleep while I was wearing him.  It makes nursing easy and descrete.  I also liked that it helps keep people...

I loved the Maya Wrap I chose when my first child was born.  I could carry him  in it from the time he was wee until he was way into his toddler years.  As a baby, he was 19 lbs at 4 months, and my wrists were killing me.

The Wrap has a long tail that can be tossed over your shoulder or used as a nursing drape.  There is a built in pocket that velcros shut for the spare diaper or your car keys.  I love this wrap.

I liked my Mya Wrap but I could never get it really comfortable. I had one with a shoulder pad and wish I would have gotten one without so I could have a shouilder cap instead. I think it would have been better if I had gotten one when my daughter was first born instead of when she was 4 months old.

Like a lot of moms, I am overweight. The package said that I could wear it, but it was too uncomfortable. Everytime I leaned over, I felt like my baby was going to hit the floor. I am not sure if it was because of my weight or the product's design.

My current Maya Wrap is my 3rd sling, and I really love it.  I had used the Over the Shoulder Baby Holder prior to this, and like that a lot also.  However, the Maya Wrap has a simpler overall design and I have become used to the lack of padding.  I used this sling with my 3rd child from when he was a newborn until he was over 2 years old, and am now using it with my new baby.

I find this sling to be extremely durable.  It is showing very little wear after 3 years of constant use.  It contains a pocket in its "tail" -- the fabric that hangs down through the rings -- which is great for putting...

With my first (colicky!) baby, I spent the first 6 months of his life in a rocking chair while I watched the dirty dishes pile up.  So, when we were expecting baby #2, I looked on-line for ways to carry my baby and found Maya Wrap.  Absolutely awesome!  Nicholas was in the baby sling from the first week after birth until he was 2 1/2 and determined to run.  I loved the flexibility--with an endless variety of ways to hold him, I was sure to find a way he liked to be held, whether he was sleeping or up and looking around.  And, there was peace of mind--I always knew where he was, that he was...
