Maya Wrap Baby Sling —

This is a product that one would expect a mother to review, but being a father of three young kids, I have to say that the Maya Wrap exceeded all of my expectations. When I first saw this "long piece of cloth with two sizable metal rings at one end" I was skeptical. Being a tech geek, I tend to gravitate to more contemporary solutions to age old problems - surely the Baby Bjorn type carriers (we did own a carrier from Medela - but did not find it as useful or comfortable) are more comfortable and practical than a simple piece of cloth from ages past. I was flat wrong!

After watching the video that came with the wrap, and some help from my wife, I was carrying our baby in ways that I never imagined safe or possible. Perhaps the best part of using the Maya Wrap are the infinite possibilities for positioning your baby and making minute adjustments so that both baby and parent are comfortable and happy. For instance, when making dinner, you can pull up the top flap higher and tighter to keep baby's hands safely inside the Maya Wrap and away from sharp knives and hot pots. Or if you don't want the baby near the front, you can shift her to your back or to the side over your hip.

One other use is in the grocery store as a large soft seatbelt that will keep your baby safely in the grocery cart seat - just thread it through the tines in the back of the seat and gently cinch it around baby's abdomen. Finally place the excess fabric behind baby's back as padding. Now your baby is riding like a prince or princess safe in the embrace of the Maya Wrap.

The Maya Wrap is made of cotton that is highly breathable, thus keeping both baby and parent as cool as possible in hot weather. The flap of fabric that hangs out of the rings after cinching your baby in place can also be used as a sun shade on sunny days. My wife also liked the privacy afforded by the Maya Wrap when she was breast feeding.

Overall, a great solution to the age old problem of carrying your baby around. I highly recommended the Original Maya Wrap, with the caveat of taking the time to learn how to use this wonderful carrier.

One other note - this carrier's useful life extends well beyond most carriers as you can also carry toddlers with it. It also come in four sizes.
