My favorite sling

5

I have many baby slings because, I don't know, I just can't resist buying one that looks good and trying it out. I love carrying my baby and I am always looking for a comfortable sling. I tried this one because my strap and buckle type of baby carrier was a little uncomfortable and this was recommended by a friend. I had a little one who would only calm when carried tummy to tummy, so I was looking for something really comfortable. This was easy to put on, and was so comfortable to my baby. She calmed right down when I put her in. The fabric started out soft, but got even softer with subsequent washes. I like the little pocket on the back as well, because it's a handy place to put a pacifier. I have used this as a back carrier as well, and it was reasonably easy to get my daughter in. Out of all the different carriers I have (ring sling, buckle front carrier, pouch, wrap), this was the one I always found myself going for when my baby was 0-9 months.

Purchasing a Maya Tie, backpack style, was one of the greatest decitions I've made, baby gear wise.  It has proved to be an invaluable help with my first, second and soon to be third child. As a first time parent, almost 3 years ago, I knew little about baby wearing.  I purchase the ever popular but totally useless Baby Bjorn.  I proudly plopped my 4 week old in it and strutted off to my first breastfeeding group gathering...thinking I was such a great mom, keeping my baby all snug and close.  It didn't take long to realize that the Baby Bjorn was not all it was cracked up to me.  In the 4 minute walk with my 7 lb. baby, it was already uncomfortable.  So, I stored it away when I got home and put wearing my baby in the back of my mind. Nearly 10 months later, a friend introduced me to what I consider to be true COMFORTABLE babywearing.  Not too much later, I purchase my Maya Tie.  It took me a few tries to get totally comfortable "tieing" my then 1 year old, but once I learned the ropes I was sold!  I started with front carries and we both really enjoyed it.  She was very secure in the Maya Tie and we were both very comfortable.  I used it mainly for shopping but also used it during "fussy times" around the house so I could still accomplish things like laundry, cleaning, etc.  As she gained a little more weight, I decided to try out a back carry.  Let me just say, I wish I would have started off with the back carry.  I would shop hands free and without her in my way.  She loved it because she was close to me and had a great view.  Everywhere we went people were always asking, "Where did you get that", "What is that called" and lots of middle-aged and older women commented "I wish they had those when I had little ones".  The last comment made me laught, people have been wearing their babies for centuries... :) Once getting comfortable with the Maya Tie, it totally replaced my stroller.  It was much easier and took up far less space to haul around.  Some things I absolutely LOVE about the Maya Tie that I haven't seen with other Mei Tie carriers.  - There is a pouch on the front of the carrier where you can stash your keys, wallet, cell phone, a diaper, paci or anything else you might need.  The pouch is about the size of a fully extended hand and I found it to be GREAT, especially on quick trips in and out of the store when I didn't want to carry my entire purse or diaper bag in. - The size!  I've noticed that the size of the square part is much smaller on other Mei Ties, and other children in those types don't look nearly as comfortable as mine did.  The large square seemed to hold them in a very "cozy" fashion, rather than stiff and ridgid.  - I love the straps!  The spread out VERY wide over your shoulders, almost like a shaw, and distribute the childs weight very evenly.  Yet, if you do not want them spread out, it is easy to bunch them and go straight over the shoulder top without lots of bulk.  - The quality is amazing!  It feels like there are 20 layers of fabric, but yet never made my child hot!  They are very thick and I have no doubts they would last for YEARS and YEARS.  I purchased mine 2nd hand, have used it with 2 children, and will now be using it for the 3rd and if very honestly looks exactly like it does when I bought it.  The fabric is very stain resistent, it is machine washable and despite the tags instructions not to dry it in a dryer, I have and it has not effected the quality or size what so ever.  The fabric is also very resistent to wrinkles which is great because I'm always wadding mine up.  Several carriers and slings I've used get wrinkled up and look bad, but not the Maya. - The design couldn't be better.  Although there were a couple other carriers I preferred for my infant (0-6 months), it was still great for a tiny baby.  I've now used it on children birth to over 2 years of age and found it was a perfect fit for all sizes. I honestly wish I could come up with a little constructive critisizm but there is nothing...this is hands down my FAVORITE baby item of all time!  I only wish I had one in every color. For a parent looking to purcahse a Maya Tie, I would strongly recommend looking into purchasing their Maya Tie second hand.  The quality is so great that it would be silly to buy new. As far as sizing, I'm 5 feet 2 inches tall and I purchased a large by mistake.  I'm not super skinny after 2 babies but I'm fairly small and the only downfall for me, with having the large, has been that the straps are a little longer than needed.  However, they can be easily tucked away once you have your baby wrapped in.  Or they could easily be altered to better suit me, I've just never found it to be that much of a problem, worth taking the time or spending the money to have them changed.
