My earliest recollection of Maxwell House coffee was when I was a little boy having breakfast with my father before he left for work. It was the blue can that was always left on the counter-top. I would watch it perk in the glass percolator sitting on the stove.
My dad drank coffee and read the paper, so I wanted to drink coffee and read the paper right along side him. Even though he put lots of milk and sugar in it for me, I really didn't care for it all that much.
As I grew up I developed a love for coffee, but whenever I tried or was served Maxwell House I found it not much better than I did as a boy. It always tasted thin and washed out.
A couple of weeks ago I tried Maxwell House Colombian Supreme. It's described as a medium dark brew. I have to say it did get my attention. It was bold, deep yet well rounded with a pleasant aftertaste. It reminds me of Folger's Colombian Supreme, a coffee that when made with the right amount of water and coffee is a pleasant way to start the day.
The container actually doesn't look like the product picture. Maxwell House has switched to a plastic "can" with an easy to hold handle. Very thoughtful, it'll find uses long after the coffee is gone.
It's likely you'll find it "on special" in your local supermarket. Publix Supermarkets was recently featuring it for $4.99/34ozs. That's over $4.00 under its usual price. The classic supermarket loss leader. Take advantage of it.
My Viewpoint
If you like a full-flavored cup of coffee in the morning, or for that matter, after dinner, this is a coffee I can recommend. Gourmet? No, just a good cuppa. Try it.

Rudi
