The Maxell iPod Translucent Skin Case comes in clear, black and blue. I am reviewing the translucent skin. I can see the iPod clearly through the skin thus the name translucent.

The Skin Case is designed to fit the 4th-generation iPod.

Maxell tells us that the skin is durable, will absorb shocks and generally protect my iPod from bumps and dust. Maxell tells us that I will have easy access to the controls.

My skin came with an arm band, a lanyard and what is called a 360-degree ratcheting belt

The skin goes on easily. The texture of it is rubbery. It even smells rubbery. The material is very flexible. There is a flap on the bottom of it which gives access to the dock connector. This is great since a dock (external speakers) was one of the other accessories I bought. I can access all the controls easily including the head phone jack and audio connector.

The skin is a little different where the iPod's window is. This is clear and is supposed to be see-through. At times I have trouble seeing through it and wish that area were more user friendly.

The 360-degree ratcheting belt clip is a small piece of plastic on the back of the case that moves. The clip is attached to that. This clip is flimsy and with enough use or too much muscle I can see it breaking. In general I'm not thrilled with the durability of the skin. I don't expect it to last too long.

The most commonly used way you'll see iPods being worn are with the arm band that comes with Maxell's Skin. This piece feels the most durable of all. It is a wide, heavy duty piece of material with Velcro on one side. It has a belt buckle on one end. The band goes through two slots in the skin and then wraps around my arm.

I like the Skin. It absorbs shocks if the iPod falls or is put down heavily. The display is protected and my iPod now doesn't get dirty or scratched and the dock connector stays free of dirt.

Maxell gives us a 90-day warranty. You'll get a lot with this package but check around for the lowest price. You should pay about $25.00.

Jo's bottom line: I like the Skin. It does its job.

Here's a question ... could this skin and it's armband be used on a hand? I know it's an odd question, but my husband has a 5th generation iPod, and wants to find a way to strap it to the inside of his hand. He currently has that with his personal CD player. I think it was possibly meant to be an armband as well, but he uses it to "palm" the CD player and keep it there. (Yes, large hands.) So could this arm band and skin be used the same way, and if so, would the iPod fit as it naturally would in your palm, somewhat diagonally, or would it have to fit lengthwise to be perpendicular to the strap? Did this all just make sense?
