Maui Review Summary

Those who are looking for cultural experiences and love nature are enjoying the beautiful views and beautiful weather of Maui in Hawaii. "We call Maui 'The Second Oahu' because it harbors similar traits of city and night life compared to the other islands." There is plenty to do in Maui for those who love to relax as well as those who love to explore such as "black sand beaches, Hanauma Bay, Seven Pools, Waterfalls" and more! Reviewers recommend going during whale season because "whale watching was incredible". Those who have been to multiple islands state that "Maui wins hands down as a vacation paradise." Read reviews of the other Hawaiian islands of Kauai and Oahu.

"Maui No Ka Oi", which translates roughly into "Maui is the Best", can be argued for days depending on who you speak to. I was born and raised on Oahu, the most developed of the Hawaiian Island chain, but always had a fascination for Maui. We call Maui "The Second Oahu" because it harbors similar traits of city and night life compared to the other islands. Often times, I hear visitors from the mainland rave about the island of Kauai simply because of its natural, preserved beauty. I have visited both many times and my heart still favors The Valley Isle that Maui is named today.

We just got back from six days in Maui. Our last trip was 15 years ago as dating couple.  This time we went back with our three kids and had an amazing time. Incredibly relaxing, beautiful and re-energizing.  On our last trip we stayed at The Ritz Carlton in Kapalua.  This time we stayed in a house (via Ultimate Escapes) in an area of Maui called Kanapali which is in the city of Lahaina.

The Weather

Despite a gloomy forecast of partly cloudy for most of the week, we had nearly perfect weather.  While it was not couldless, we went to the beach every day and what coulds there...

Well, the experts have spoken (some of them, anyway).  Conde Nast Traveler readers voted that the #1 Resort in Hawaii is The Four Seasons in Wailea, Maui.  I had the pleasure of being at this Four Seasons last winter, and I admit that these voters know a great thing when they see it.  Every thing is 5-star at this resort hotel, from the spa - called, appropriately enough, "The Spa" - to the restaurants to the pools and beach.

Wailea is the most luxurious part of Maui, and it's no surprise to find the three best resorts along Wailea's peaceful stretch of sand and ocean.  The Grand Wailea, on...

We got free airfare from a travel agent when we bought a cruise from them.  So we took 10 nts in Maui at Embassy Vacation Resort.  We love Embassy Suites so we thought that was the same in Hawaii.  1998 we arrive, amazed at an airport with no glass in the windows, smiles everywhere, and very helpful folks.  We have a Alamo rental car & they took our luggage to the van to take us to Alamo.  Get the car & drive 30 minutes to Embassy past Lahaina.  The freeway is next to the ocean, tunnels cut through mountains, and signs for falling rocks everywhere.  This was heaven in beauty.  We arrive...

Maui No Ka Oi!  Visit Maui if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and if you want to just relax!  Maui is very laid back so leave the fancy clothes behind, pack casual clothes, and don't be afraid to step away from McDonald's and Outback to try some local food!

My husband and I spent March 1-9, 2008 on Maui as a special get-away to celebrate our 10th anniversary.  This was our first trip to Hawaii and it was wonderful!  We did a lot of the typical tourist stuff, but tried to find some time to just relax and enjoy ourselves as well.

My husband found our lodging which was a rental unit called Tradewinds Suite near Haiku.  It was so nice and private.  I would go back in a heartbeat and stay there again!  They also have another rental unit that's a bit larger and is recommended for families.

We picked a wonderful time of year to go too.  Not only was...

We were there 2 times. So fare it's my favorite place on Earth! I love black sand beaches, Hanauma Bay, Seven Pools, Waterfalls, I do not have words to describe it, you have to see it for yourself! First time we rented one bdr condo from a lady(found it on ebay, very good price) it was right on the ocean! Second time it was a package from Sheraton: 5 nights, renatl car for a week, $75 Sheraton money. All for $750. We even didn't have to attend any presentaations. For air I used Delta miles, but you have to book almost a yr in advance using miles. Aloha, and good luck!

Maui is my favorite place to vacation. I hope to retire there. Some areas are touristy,

but you can find plenty to do on your own or with friends and family. A great place to be !

I've been to Maui twice now.  The first time, we rented a soft top jeep and thought we could leave our luggage in the car in a parking garage with the car backed up against a wall where it would be out of view, but they stole some of our luggage anyways.  Despite that we still had an amazing time.  Definitely take the road to Hana.  Take a guidebook with you to get to off the beaten path pools.  Buy a DVD/cassette for the road to Hana.  If you get a chance, take a plane to Molokai and ride on a mule on the mountainside.  It's an amazing trip because you then get to learn about the history...

I've been to four of Hawaii's islands now and Maui is my favorite. Although there was too much traffic, it seemed much more relaxed than Oahu's Waikiki beach. The beaches we saw in Maui were beautiful white sand beaches. In general the water was blue, the waves were big and the water was warm enough to swim in, even in November. There were plenty of places to eat and shop and lots of sights to see and activities to enjoy. I plan to return there as often as I am able.

We have stayed at the Kaanapali Alii several times over the years. It is "pricey" but the condos are huge (1500 sq. feet or more) and so much nicer than a hotel room. Has a washer and dryer in each unit and on the best beach in Maui - Kaanapali Beach.

The Whaler condos are also great for the location on the same beach.

On our Hawaii trip we visited both Oahu and Maui; Maui wins hands down as a vacation paradise.  The locals were friendly, we were able to find places easily, able to get away from the crowds easily, there were so many things to do as well as plenty of places to do nothing.  We will definitely go back!

There are no words to describe how beautiful Maui is. We stayed at the Kaanapali Beach Resort and it was totally awesome...they are so kid friendly with so many things to do and being right on the beach was wonderful. We last visited in 2005 and I can still smell the gorgeous tropical flowers.

Maui no ka oi is the truth.  Perfect weather.  Great food.  Wonderful people. I work here & it's still like I'm on vacation.  My office window view is Haleakala on one side & Molokini crater on the other.  Truly heaven on earth!
