Mattress Buying Tips Review

1. Research

I started by deciding what size mattress to purchase. We have been sleeping on a full size bed for many years. As we have traveled; we have had many opportunities to try different sizes of mattresses. We agreed that a king felt too big, we knew the full was too small and the queen size gave us enough room without feeling like we were sleeping in different beds.

Next, I went on-line and looked at different brands and types of mattresses. I compared prices and got a feel for what was in the market. I learned about pillow-top, firm, soft, memory foam and more. I read about split box-springs, low box-springs and beds without box-springs at all.

Then, I started asking my family and friends what they liked or disliked. A cousin had tried a memory foam and found it too hot. A friend loved her pillow-top mattress.

    2.   Shopping

We began by going to different stores. We went to Ikea, 1-800-Mattress and to Sleepy's. And then we saw the all important sale. So I went to Sleepy's , was assisted by informative sales people and tried out a few of the beds. Soft firm and in between. I picked one that I liked. A semi-firm comfort top with sides that wouldn't collapse when you sat down. (Never would have even thought of it until I tried to sit on one that did) I laid down on the mattress, on my back and sides. Rolled around some.

The next step was to bring my partner in to try it. So she came in and tried out the different types also. She likes a soft mattress and I prefer a more firm one. This type was perfect for us.

     3.  The Purchase

Now, we had to decide what type of box spring. We had no issues with tight stairwells or awkward angels so the added cost of a split spring was unnecessary. So we went with a standard box-spring, also with the extra support on the sides. We have cats so adding a mattress protector to our purchase was a priority, just in case. And it gave us added warranty protection.

Time to get out the credit card. Luckily for us, most of the purchase was a gift from family for our birthdays. So someone else got points on their card.

    4.   Aahh, Rest

Why didn't we do this sooner?  It has been wonderful. My feet don't hang off the edge. I never realized what a difference that would make; my feet stay under the covers and warm. I can move without flinging an elbow or knee into my mate. And I can sit on the edge of the bed and it supports me. What a difference.  It has been a few months now and we have been very happy with our choice of the Sleepy's King Koil Comfort Top Mattress.
