As everyone that is on the site, I was hoping to find happiness and I decided to sign up for the 6 month deal. I was only on the site for less than 2 days and while on the site saw someone changing all of my account information. I took screen shots of everything as it was happening. Someone who happened to email me the first day also wrote me to notify me my profile looked fishy as well. I checked the "abuse" page and there was no information of what to do in that situation. I reported the issue to their abuse email and didn't hear anything from them for 2 whole days...week days! I then had to do a google search for them because they don't have a support number readily available on their own website.
I was so frustrated that someone was using my account, and personal info for something that could have been more severe identity theft, that I cancelled my account that night. After not hearing anything from the 5 emails I had sent to support I called them, and the woman on the phone couldn't even issue me a refund, but instead wanted me to change my password. I told her I cancelled the account and she said she'd have to send my account to corporate to see if they'd issue a refund.....I asked her when i'd hear back from someone and she told me if I didn't hear from them within five days to call back.....REALLY?!!!!
So after 2 days of waiting for any news, I got an email from their support group that said how to reset my password...a very general "no duh" email. They clearly didn't even LOOK at my account OR the screenshots I had sent to them, or they would have realized I had cancelled my account 2 days prior!
I finally did get credited my money back, but the process was ridiculous and they really had no care of my personal safety or the safety of their other users. I also heard from a coworker who I told my story to a few days later that they leave users accounts open even though a user may have cancelled their accounts, so that they have more people to present to others as potential options. This is such a lie to people. If people have cancelled their account it means they wish to no longer be viewed by other people, not used as extra profiles to keep in their database when they have no one else to show their users.
I wouldn't recommend Match.com to anyone. There are plenty of other websites out there that are free. I've used Okcupid.com and while I haven't found anyone I'd settle down with yet, there are some really nice people on there, and people I am interested in getting to know more. It's also free, not a rip off like what I experienced at Match.
I hope this review helps other pissed off consumers.
