At the center of the universe, at the border between the light and the dark stands Castle Grayskull. For countless ages, the Sorceress of Grayskull has kept this universe in harmony, but the armies of darkness do not rest and the capture of Grayskull is evermost in their minds. For to those who control Grayskull will come the power. The power to be supreme, the power to be almighty, the power to be Masters of the Universe.
Voice over introduction to the film.
And it's all downhill from there folks.
Once popular kiddie cartoon gets turned into a cheesy, flat and most dull live action version with a cast that includes: Courtney Cox, Meg Foster, Billy Barty and bland muscular Dolph Lundgren as HE-MAN.
Frank Langella tries to have fun playing Skeletor and he agreed to be in this medium budget Canon Films produced turkey because he thought his kids (who watched the cartoon series) would enjoy the film.
Canon pulled the plug on the film before it was finished because they were very low on cash. The director convinced them to give him a litlte money to finish it. They did... and a few years later Canon was out of business (they made lots of dumb decisions and lots of bad movies).
Unfortunately the film is not cheesy or campy or baaad enough to recommend to anyone. Half the time it comes off as a bad Star Wars rip-off and the music score sounds like Star Wars too.
Lame but in a dull, don't waste your time kind of a way. At the end of the film Langella as Skeletor rises from the lava (or slime) and says something like : "I'll be back." Good news is.. he was not.
