a classic rocker, cost-conscious
A straight acoustic guitar has no amplification. You want the sound to 'project' as far as possible with clarity. Don't waste your time, or money on cheap strings. These Martin strings are coated for a reason; it keeps out impurities such as a humans natural oils that secrete from our fingers. This makes them last longer. But there are many coated strings on the market. — Pure and simple, Martin strings sound better for an acoustic guitar than anything else I've tried. And I've tried the D'Addarios, and the Elixirs.
