Martian Child Review

Sometimes I have personally wondered if perhaps my son could have been replaced at birth with a child from Mars. I know this is not so when I look in his eyes and I am staring at part of me. Some of the things my child has pretended to be, it is not to far fetched for me to think that a child may think he is from Mars. When hearing about the premier of the new movie Martian Child, I wanted to be one of the first lucky viewers.

As you would work out, the only movie theater in a sixty mile radius showing Martian Child on debut night was Palace Point in Roxboro North Carolina. With my ten year old and my sister, we loaded the car up and set off for what would prove to be an enjoyable night at the movies.

Martian Child stars Bobby Coleman as Dennis, a child in foster care that truly believes he is from Mars. The child's case worker Sophie Okonedo as Sophie, calls John Cusack as David, who plays a science fiction writer whose wife has passed away. Before she died, the couple had planned on adopting a child. Since her death, adopting a child was the last thing on his To Do List. Curiosity gets the best of him though and he goes to check out this child, with whom the case worker thinks he would make a suitable parent for.

David's first glimpse of the child is on the playground, separated from all the other children, inside a large cardboard box.  His first thoughts are how crazy would it be for him to try to adopt a child with obvious problems. He gets to know Dennis a little better and starts entertaining the thought of adopting.

David decides to take the child on a trial basis. David learns that Dennis honestly believes he is from Mars, to an extent that he has to wear a weight belt to keep him from flying away. Amanda Peet as Harlee, plays David's dead wife's best friend.  Harlee supports David on his quest to adopting Dennis and making Dennis more human like.

Joan Cusack as Liz, plays David's skeptical sister. She adds to the comic relief in the movie. She has two children of her own and Liz and she tries to explain to David how hard kids are when you have two people raising them.

Is Dennis truly from Mars? Will David and Dennis be able to work the kinks out and become a family?  Is this movie a happily ever after?

That would ruin the ending if I told you. I do have to say that it was one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. It is wholesome and family oriented.  I give it two thumbs up and so did my ten year old son. I would r recommend children of all ages as well as adults. If you are looking for a good family movie I put Martian Child at the top of my list!
