Martha Stewart's Homekeeping Handbook: The Essential Guide to Caring for Everything in Your Home is a great resource for everyone that lives in a home, cooks, cleans or is a DIY'er.
I was really impressed with the sheer mass of subjects covered and the detailed information given. This book is full of helpful hints, ideas and tips on just about anything you may encounter in your day to day life as a member of civilization.
The book is a little pricey at $45.00 but is well worth the expense. It comes with an easy to clean clear plastic cover which I love, in case I manage to make a mess while doing something.
A great resource for housewives that I higly recommend. Get it, enjoy it, learn from it.
