March of the Penguins 2005 —

I am a softie:  I admit it right up front.  I get very upset when I see roadkill.  I relocate spiders.   I can't stand to watch accidents replayed.    But that's not always a bad thing, just when you have a beastie in your house.  So when I mentioned to my girlfriend that I nearly cried during March of the Penguins, and had to leave the room once, she said "Both my boys got very upset by it, too."  (They are 8 and 10).   So I knew it wasn't just me.

(SEMI-SPOILER) Sad or stressful themes include:   life-threatening and very scary weather events, dead chicks, depressed and inconsolable mamas, frozen daddies, depressed daddies, broken eggs, separation anxiety and predators.   For a softie, this is not entertainment.   I wish I'd seen the animated penguin movie instead!

Someone build those penguins a big wall to hover behind !!!!
I left thinking "we can put men on the moon, but these penguins are in agony sevearl months a year.   I wish we could put up a big wall to block the winter storms for the daddies.
A well-done film, yes...........but now, all winter, I will think about those poor, poor penguins.  I wish I'd never seen this movie.

The Bottom Line:  Libby Leave It

Thanks. Great review. My 8 and 6 year old saw it. The older one loved it. I still have not seen it but now I really need to. Thanks.

Yeah, this story just broke my heart. I can't believe what a horrible life those poor penguins live. All that walking back and forth with eggs on their feet. Seems like they should just live near the water instead of hanging out on the tundra. Poor things.

I could never watch this. I am SUCH a softie. I feel sorry for everything and wish I could save everything. I take in strays, I make friends with spiders rather than squash them. Nope, this would turn me into mush.
