Mandarin Oriental Washington DC - Washington, DC —

I recently stayed at the Mandarin Oriental on a quick business trip.  It is in a strange location relative to other hotels in Washington DC.   On the edge of the city near Interstate 395.  Very convenient to the Reagan National Airport. Views of Jefferson Memorial from my room and Washington Monument from the exercise room.

The room was comfortable and well appointed.  Internet access worked well, nice little sitting area (see pictures), nice bathroom (see pictures).  One of my complaints is that I walked into a room that they had cooled to 66 degrees.  I immediately re-set the AC to 73.  Why would they waste energy and keep it so cold?

Had breakfast in the restaurant.  Very nice, with a great view of the water.  Service was good, but not amazing.  I was surprised to learn they pre-make their smoothies even though they are a main feature of the menu.  I am a smoothie snob and would never pre-make.

The lobby was large, impressive with lots of marble.  If you are traveling on business and want to impress anyone you are meeting with, this hotel will certainly help.  It seems to be a common power spot in DC.

The exercise room was nice and well appointed.  I was dissapointed that they had Technogym equipment and not lifefitness or precor, but it worked out just fine.  Each machine has its own television which is very nice.

The bellman at the front really got pissed at me when I did not give him a tip for getting me a cab. I had no singles and did not have time to have him give me a change for a $20.   In my opinion he should have taken it in stride rather than giving me a dirty look and shaking his head.   Personally I get tired of tipping people every time when I turn around and all they did was blow their whistle to have the cab come over.

Pre-made smoothies? I guess I am a smootie snob too! We live on them here - especially for breakfast, as we are heading out.
