Liked it, but...

I was really excited to find a practically brand new Mamma's Milk Baby Sling at a huge consignment sale for a fraction of the original price.  It was very pretty... two-sided, one with black silk the other, black and white toile.  It was also very simple.  No confusing straps, or loose ends to deal with.  I must also say that it was very high-quality, very durable and well-made.  I never felt like my baby was going to fall out of the bottom  (if you've ever felt some of the other brands' slings, you may know what I'm talking about!)  Once I got the sling home I went online to the Mamma's Milk website to figure out how to use it.  Apparently, (and this is not their fault since I got it from the consignment sale) I had an older version.  It appeared all of their newer slings were adjustable.  Mine was not.  After spending quite a long time looking at the website (and with help from my husband), I managed to get the sling on correctly.  The first few times getting my baby in and out were a little difficult (mainly because it was new to both of us) but once in the sling, my baby loved it.  Most of the time my baby went right to sleep.  I was able to move around with my hands free and people were not as inclined to try to touch my child (which thrilled me!)  My baby enjoyed being close to me and being all snuggly in the sling.  And both of us enjoyed being able to easily look at one another.  My problems with the sling were that, it wasn't adjustable (although this made it easier in some respects, it also made it very 'one size fits all' which unfortunately doesn't work with a growing baby), no matter how I positioned the baby, part of the sling always wanted to cover part of baby's face (I was concerned about smothering) and even though the website said it could be configured in different ways, I could never get my baby to fit any way but diagonally across my chest (which meant I couldn't use it for more than the first few months after birth.)  Overall, I loved the quality of this sling, but didn't feel that it met all of needs.  Perhaps I would have been happier with one of their other slings.

The idea of this sling sounds great, but in practice it was very disappointing. If I had been able to try it on and see if it would work for me I would probably have been happier. Let me first say I did not start thinking about slings until my daughter was able to hold her own head up, so it was probably a little late to introduce them to her, but it was not fun. We were able to use it for those times when she wanted to be snuggled, but not as often as I would like for just running errands like waiting in line at the post office or something like that. My biggest disappointment was with their ordering process. There was no way to really know what size to get. My measurements were in all different sizes and the notes said to order the larger of the 2 sizes if your measurements fell in more than one. I did as they said and it was not a good fit. It was much to big. I have seen others like seventh generation slings that now give you one measurement to take and tell you how to order on that - so much easier and the sizing worked. I am using a sling now that my daughter is a little over a year and likes to be carried on my hip. It seems to work well for shorter periods of time of walking or if standing in line somewhere. These slings are not meant for any type of real walking, but if you just need to run into a store to pick something up they work great. In short - try to find one in a store to try on before you buy and don't expect to be able to do a lot with them.

Mamma's Milk is great (we have personally used more than 5).

We have tried many baby carriers over the years, and this is by FAR the best.   We carried one of our children at 3 mo. and then on the same shopping trip carried our 3 yr. old.  This carrier has adjustable velcro the allows you to adjust the sizing/shape to fit your needs.  We have used this carrier so much.  It is more comfortable the front carriers because it distributes the childs weight over your whold shoulder.  My husband and I would take turns using the carrier.  It is very strong, and we love that it is washable (since infants tend to spit up and drool).  It does have somewhat of a learning curve, but that time spent will be greatly rewarded. I wish I could give one of these to every new mother.   Update- After child number five, I found that my shoulders were more sensitive to the pressure of the sling (which wasn't too much of an issue in the past).  I still think this is a great carrier, but for older babies (say 6-7 months and up) I would recommend an Ergo Carrier.  It is much gentler on the shoulders, and we were even able to carry around our 4 yr. old son comfortably!

I could not have survived the first 6 months of having twins without this sling. Throughout the majority of the day one or the other of my twin daughters was in the sling... sometimes both! It worked well for sleeping, colic and even feeding them. I tried many different slings but this sling fit the best and was the most wearable. It is easy to wash and dry and keeps its shape well. It comes in so many colors that I had several depending upon outfits. It is also small enough that you can throw it in your diaper bag. A must have for any mom or dad!
