Mamma Mia! (2008 movie) Review

Merle Streep, of course, made the movie Momma Mia as good as it was.  She's phenomenal.  Not as good as seeing it on Broadway (getting up and dancing in the aisles), but still lots of fun.  We were disappointed in the three fathers; they were rather stiff, especially Pierce Brosnan.  And I love Pierce Brosnan, but a singing role is just not right for him.  His voice wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great & Streep really outshone him as a singer.  Who knew she could sing?  But I guess we should have known - she seems to be good at anything she tries.  I saw it with my 18 year old daughter and we had seen it together on Broadway, so it was special for us.   I don't think it would be too appealing for men; my husband wouldn't go (and he loves both Streep and Brosnan), but then he wouldn't go to the Broadway production either because he hates Abba & their music.  So all and all Momma Mia is a great movie for woman, not so much for men.
