Magnificent Mile - Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Illinois —

Let's be honest. I'm not the kind of person who typically shops at Tiffany's. I'm a mother of teenagers who enjoys traveling, but our family budget is modest. Nonetheless, I had a wonderful time browsing the stores on the Magnificent Mile with my daughters. There is so much to see here, and you can spend days visiting all the stores. We enjoyed looking at the designer fashions, unusual gifts, the jewelry, the shoes and purses in the top-of-of-the-line stores along the mile. My personal favorite was Nieman Marcus, which offers merchandise in all of these categories. We enjoyed Water Tower Place because there were many stores of every variety in one location so we could browse for hours. At the Hershey Store, we enjoyed some candy and also got to see some of the chocolate-themed dresses designed for the Project Runway television show. I may be too old to play with Legos, but the Lego Store was still a "must see." There are elaborate models of buildings and animals made from Legos, and even one lifesize man made out of the children's toy. We enjoyed looking at the bricks on the Chicago Tribune building, gathered from far-off locations from around the globe. Wear your walking shoes -- it's a long way from one end of the mile to the other when you are stopping and shopping all day! And be sure to take time for food at the many great restaurants. We enjoyed the window view and delicious food at the Grand Luxe Cafe, which overlooks Michigan Avenue.
