MagicJack VOIP Service Review Summary

For around $30.00 a year, our reviewers are raving about MagicJack VOIP service. Explains one reviewer “honestly, I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t want to pay only $30 a year for phone service, and you can make as many calls as you want”. Reviewers also liked the fact that voice messages are e-mailed to them as well and that they can listen to them from their PC. Our members say that MajicJack has an easy setup that allows you to simply plug it in, follow a few instructions and you’re off. Worried about losing your old phone number? Don’t be, you can keep it, say our reviewers. Members have reported that the volume can, at times, be a little low, while others have heard a buzzing sound.

If you've thought about getting rid of your landline service because of high phone bills, magicJack may be for you. For $39.99, you will receive the magicJack unit, which is about the size of a pack of Tic Tac's. It comes in pink or blue, and includes a year of calls with purchase. Calls are only $19.99...

My husband and I saw a review of this on our local news and thought "Wow, we could get rid of our existing land line all together and save a ton of money!" So, we ordered it...They advertise that you can try if for 30 days and only then, if you love it, will they bill you...well, 2 days after ordering... review »

Hello, Today I'd like to tell you about some of my experiences with the "Magic Jack"

My fiance' and I had seen the advertisements for the "Magic Jack" and we became very interested, It looked like a great money saver in today's tight economy. We were the first of all of our acquaintances to purchase the "Magic Jack" and try it. We had purchased 2 of them, and at first they seemed wonderful and we began recommending them to everyone we spoke with. Myself, taking on new technology at a rapid pace. My fiance', an I.T., amongst many other things.

I had TWO problems hooking up magic jack, ONE was it is NOT compatible with Music Match Jukebox player (which i had on my system) and it wouldn't go through my firewall, those were my two installation problems. Once i deleted Music Match jukebox and opened up my firewall, it was as simple and plug and play and i was up and running in NO time. I took the two year plan of $30 for each YEAR and i am able to make international calls through my computer using a regular cordless phone. If this company goes bankrupt tomorrow, i still would have got my money out of this system.

 I honestly don't know why...

First of all I'm pissed, i just helpped my border go throught 2 hrs. of live help. "Morons". I've been working with computers since 1981 and know a thing or two. but these morons don't know jack let alone the magic of making it work! it broke after 2 days, failled to power on, tested all ports they tested fine. even put it on a diferent computer, all before i called them. the techs are so stupid that they can't fantom why one would get upset at answering the same questions 4 different times as they pass you from one tech to another, burning your time because they don't want to replace or warranty...

magic jack is a RIP-OFF please do not waste time and money on this.  i ordered the magic jack 6\08 and its now 8\01\08 and have not received it and they have billed my card twice. i was charged $87 the first time and $39.95 the second time and i only ordered one! there is no such thing as a 30 day trial period you are billed immediately and there is no live person to talk to over the phone or chat with on the internet. they have PC MAG giving this product rave reviews I think you need to check this out a little further PC because this magic jack thing is not worth the corn in feces.

Watch your Credit Card real careful with this company.  First they charged me 3 times for one jack, and then deny they did it.  Niether the Bank nor Credit Card co. can stop the charges as no phone number is connected to Magicjack.  I say...Beware.  They are a rip off.  The product is fine, the company is, on the other hand, not honest at all.

MagicJack® Set Up

After you have connected the dongel for the first time, registered the device, and have the 'softphone' on the screen, you should probably run TCP Optimizer to "tune" your computer to work with it in an efficient manner; it can be downloaded from the following website:

http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php

You can use the TCP Optimizer by following these short instructions:

  1. Choose your maximum Connection Speed from the slider bar (the maximum available bandwidth, in kilobits per second)

  2. Choose your Network Interface, or check to Modify All Network Adapters

  3. Pick "Optimal...

I've been using the MagicJack for several months now.  The quality has been inconsistent so I was about to just throw it out of the window...  then, I realized, the only time I have quality degradation problems is when I am dialed into a Goto Meeting conference call.  I believe the VOIP over VOIP leads to degradation of quality.

Since then, I have been using a conference # that isn't VOIP driven and have had no issues... I plug the MagicJack into the base of a Uniden cordless phone and can roam all over the house without a problem.

I am a little annoyed that I have to enter my user/pass frequently...

I was a little sceptical at first, I mean, $20 for a whole year of phone service, voice mail, caller ID. It was easy to install and best of all, it works. For less than $2 a month, I got a dial tone, and  a phone number.

But, the deciding factor to order it, for me was, the 30 day free trial. My credit card was not billed for 30 days.

      A VERY GOOD INVESTMENT!!!!!!!!!!

You can dial from a phone or with speakers or headphones and a microphone, you can use it from your pc.

It's not perfect, but for $2 a month, you know, it works for me!!!!!!!!!...

Audio is not alway clear, canot always make a connection, and do not recieve all voice mails. I think part of the problem might be when your PC is doinig a virus scan and ETC. I have DSL , maybe cable or fiber optic may work better.

Hi,
Today i received the magic jack for 39.95$ with a shipping charge of 6.95$.I got the information about this from my friend. So i made the first call from it to my friend. To my surprise he said that the product is not as much as he expected.
During talking there is a time lag between the conversations. It takes time for the caller to receive the recepients voice and vice versa.anyway i'm too early to comment much on it.i must give another look at it and then my opinion might change.
Regarding the good points.it is too good to have a 1 yr free outgoing to all us and canada calls for 40$,but i think...

The concept of the Magic Jack is great, but the ads make it sound like anyone with a computer can use one.  After I got mine, I went online to set it up.  First problem came up when I was supposed to pick the area code.  I couldn't figure out why my area code wasn't one of the choices.  When I ran into this problem,  I went to customer service and read all the FAQ's.  It said my area code would be available in 30 days. That's where I found out it doesn't work with satellite internet.  So I found a customer service rep to help me with getting an RMA so I can get my money back.  He was very... review »

Had the MagicJack for several months now.  The audio stopped working on most of the calls placed and received.  Can't hear incoming calls and can't hear outgoing calls.  This renders the MJ useless.  Spent several hours with customer support.  They are unable to resolve and unable to escalate and unable to do anything now.  Now when I 'chat' with customer service they are unwilling to help.  They tell me I am out of options.  They will not refund me for the 5 years of service I purchased and they do not participate in number portability so I can't take my number to another provider. ...

MagicJack does not provide support for their product and will not replace a defective unit. Multiple attempts were made to get their product to operate with zero success.

If you have one, it must be used frequently due to the process used to update and modify the operation. If a few days are missed in using the product, it becomes inoperative and having missed one or more updates, it can no longer accept updates and becomes a very useless small paper weight. Attempts to have the problems corrected, get the a replacement unit or a refund are useless.
