MagicJack VOIP Service —

If you've thought about getting rid of your landline service because of high phone bills, magicJack may be for you. For $39.99, you will receive the magicJack unit, which is about the size of a pack of Tic Tac's. It comes in pink or blue, and includes a year of calls with purchase. Calls are only $19.99 per additional year, yes year.

Setup is a breeze: Simply plug the magicJack unit into any USB port in your computer and the software automatically loads. In seconds you will be assigned a phone number (you will soon be able to transfer your current number). Plug any standard landline phone into the magicJack's phone jack and you are ready to make calls. You can also forego the phone and use magicJack from your computer with your microphone or headset.

MagicJack comes with all of the features you have come to expect with landline service: Call waiting, 3-way calling, voicemail, caller ID, 911 service, call forwarding and even free calls to 411.

Call quality is generally exceptional, but there is the occasional call where you can hear an echo, or times when the other party says you sound soft. I haven't concluded whether or not this is from the magicJack or from the internet connection.

The only real downside to magicJack is that your computer must remain on at all times to receive phone calls. You also must have an active internet connection. In addition, there have been a few times that I've called my magicJack number and received an automated message saying "All circuits are busy."

Overall, this is a great product for the price, and even with the occasional quirk you can't go wrong for $19.99 per year.

I do Not recommend this product AT ALL. It drops calls randomly, restarts on its own, Crashes constantly, and doesn't always forward the call to the phone its connected too. I have been using it a straight month and haven't gotten a single day of uninterupted use out of it. The Live support is also a joke, they just tell you to do everything their FAQ tells you too. And even then it doesn't fix a thing.

Stop Jerking me around, MagicJack-Off!!!

I refer to this company as jackoffs because they charged my debit card 25 days into my 30 day trial period - bouncing two checks! It's a no-no to give out debit card #'s on the internet; but a $1.2 million dollar heart attack & 2 month coma wiped out my credit as well as my health. Hence VOIP. Anyway, back to the point. Not only
did they break their contract with me; they're dragging their heels in giving me a refund number; probably hoping they can say that I went over their 30 days trial period by not returning their product in a timely fashion. I had to go through the hassle of disputing this directly with my bank. PAIN IN THE AARRGGGGHH!

I was going to cancel in due course anyway - most everyone I called received a wicked echo or couldn't hear me unless I was shouting! YES - I tried all of their "magic fixes" from their website to improve the call quality; To no avail...

When I first installed this crapware - I found THIRTEEN different applications associated with it in my firewall... I disabled nine of them - but FOUR of these "services" HAD to be enabled for this POS to work - THREE TOO MANY FOR MY TASTE! And they were all named with obfuscating names like "in00000" & such...

In addition, MagicJackOff would not give me the local area code that I live in - How much you wanna bet they make money off all the local folks that have to call me long distance?! Sheer speculation, I know, but still... Do NOT trust MAGICJACKOFF!!! - Hasta la fuego, Magic Jack-Offs! - POS's!
