Magellan - Maestro 3100 GPS Receiver Review Summary

Do you sometimes have trouble navigating the streets? If you do, then you are probably fully aware that a Global Positioning System is the answer to your problems and one budget priced option is the Magellan Maestro 3100 GPS Receiver. This global positioning system is very accurate, easy to use, and produces easily readable maps. It’s a “Great Little Gadget for Finding Your Way Around…Very Accurate”. The Magellan Maestro 3100 GPS Receiver isn’t very sophisticated, however. It doesn’t offer many special features and it is lacking in a few areas. It makes you cancel your present route completely before you can make a change and some of the maps are outdated, earning it a rating as an average GPS Device overall by our reviewers.

The Magellan Maestro 3100 is a great deal for the money. Being one who is not very good with directions, I wanted a GPS system that would be reliable yet not break the bank. Through research, I found this unit, which has proven to be a good choice over the year I've owned it.

The pros of this unit are...

The dang thing turns on every time I start the car unless I unplug it, and then the plug thingy swings to and fro.  It also has a touch screen which won't work with gloves but you can use a pencil eraser.

My Lowrance GPS (ancient) has a really neat thing where it shows you the path you've taken..this...

The Magellan maestro 3100 gps system is awesome.  We recently took a trip with it.  We got it for Christmas and went 1700 miles with it.  Betty  as my husband refers to the "voice" was polite and an awesome navigator.  It locates the banks and gas stations, motels, restrurants anything you could need.  It will tell you your exact location if you break down, the speed you are going and when you will arrive at your destination.  The one thing I did not like was if you make a wrong turn betty will tell you over and over again to make a u turn you are going the wrong way.  We unplugged her... review »

I bought the Magellan - Maestro 3100 GPS Receiver for my husband as I was tired of us being lost and late arriving places.  Now we know exactly where we're going, and how long the 'expected' travel time will be.  I like the fact you can change voices (female for a man) and (male for a woman) and that it has maps for the U.S. and Canada. We have family in Canada and it is a godsend.  We like the day and night screen and ability to turn up the volume while driving due to traffic noise.  The suction cup gives us the ability to affix to the gas tank on our motorcycle as well and those were the... review »

I like this GPS, especially for the cost. Is very accurate too. The only problem is that it takes a minute for the GPS to recieve a signal and to locate where you are when you just turn it on.

The GPS Mastro 3100 is a very good unit for the price I paid, very accurate and the display resolution is very good. I have been using my unit for about three months and the alert when is time to turn is very usefull. the night mode works perfect and it turns automatic.

I don't think that the GPS is all it is cracked up to be. Sure it will get you to where you are going, sometimes by the scenic route if you get what I mean. Mine is a Magellan Maestro 3100. If the place I'm looking for has been around for fifty years it will take you right to it. But if it hasn't it won't be programed for the change in road direction and will tell you to turn when there isn't a turn, or take you in circles like mine has. Don't get me wrong I do appreciate what it does, when I get to where I'm going, sometimes quicker then stopping and asking for directions or looking on a map....

I bought my magellan Maestro about a year and a half ago.  It is great when you are in a new town and need to find things.  I like it features and it is fairly easy to use.  My children think it is funny becuase it talks and tells me things.  Always use your brain and think if it is not safe dont do it.  Because it is just a machine and can make mistakes but I feel it was worth the money we have gotten a lot of use out of ours and our looking forward to beable to travel more and use it more when the gas price go back down and make it so we can afford to go for drives just to fine new places. ... review »

We use this every time we go on vacation and would recommend it to anyone.  We even let other family members use it and they have had no problems either.  I appreciate that it is not as expensive as other systems but works well. Why pay more for extra bells and whistles when this does everything you need it to and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Just recently purchased this affordable gps and I am very happy with it. I live in a rural area and was worried about some of the smaller roads being listed, but they are all there. Very accurate and easy to use at a great price. Haven't had to download any new maps yet.

Is very accurate, I love the fact that you can put your cell phone on blue tooth and answer through the magellan so you don't have to find your phone while driving. It will also let you know if traffic is bad and how to go around it.

It is one of the most unfriendly units that I have ever seen.  It is slow when you type in an address, it goes to the GPS location screen if it is not sure where you are and cannot cancel out of it.

This is a great little GPS unit for someone who wants simplicity. Its farily easy to program and easy to read. Great for the price, expecially when most GPS units are around 300 and 400 dollars this one is a bargain. The speaker is loud enough that you can hear even over loud music and give turns in plenty of time. It would be nice to be able to plan a trip with multiple cities but perhaps that will come in time. Overall a good little unit for someone who is on a budget or isnt rich.
