Credit card use; Macy's, Sears, or VISA

 I ask myself, are charge cards a trap or a necessary convenience? Therefore, I try to abstain from constant use of my credit cards with the intent of paying them off early and working towards becoming debt free.  As Murphy's Law goes, "Everything that can go wrong, will"!  This is the case with my credit card use.  I intend to pay the card off early so that the money used for credit card payments can then become money for savings, for home improvements, vacations and my college kids.  It seems that an emergency always comes up and there I go again, using that credit card.

 Interest rates on credit cards I use are way too high.  For example, at Macy's, I will do my major shopping for clothes approximately once per year spending around $1000.  This gets me a beautiful $320 Kasper suit for $169, and several other ourfits for around $125 each and a couple pairs of shoes.  Undergarments and other accessories are ongoing during the year.  As I plan to pay $350 and pay the whole thing off in 3 months, something comes up where I'm left only able to pay a little above the minimum requirement.  That explains why I can't shop more often and it also stacks up a large amount of interest rates I pay.  So I ask my self, where is the savings on the $350 Kasper suit, and why am I still in debt?  As I near retirement, I will no longer have the constant need to upgrade my warddrobe .  Hopefully, the girls will be out of college soon.  Then I can put more money in my savings and look forward to a debt-free lifestyle!
