About a year ago I start a new job in which our development environment is the Mac Book Pro. In my previously life I had been a pretty hard core Linux guy -- I only used Windows when I had to. Moving to the mac platform has been a joy. Having the best of breed user interface coupled with a real command prompt is paradise.

We were Mac users years ago.  As my family grew and increased computer needs and wants, Mac software options did not; so, we became PC users.  I, being a desktop publisher missed my Mac.  We currently have a reasonably new PC desktop, but jumped at the chance to get a Mac laptop.  All the reasons I loved Macs are still there and now there is no longer a problem with software compatibility... I have anything a PC has and with greater flexibility and ease of use.

I spent the first two years of college fiddling around with three different laptops - two Sony Vaios and one Dell - all of which had malfunctioned in one form or another within six months of the purchase date. None of those laptops were used, either. I gave up on PCs in March 2006 and bought my first Apple: a PowerBook G4. Imagine my suprise when after the first week of use I tried to my Mac on in class and only received a black screen staring me in the face. I have had five laptops in the last six years. I currently still have a Mac powerbook 5 years old and a new MacBook Pro. I have been very happy with Macs. I first turned to Apple since I am a elementary teacher and now am a grad student always on the computer. They run so much quicker than any PC I have used in the past. I have been extremely happy with the quality- I have never had even a problem with a virus (luckily). The Mac employees are very helpful and knowledgable with any questions I have had.

The MacBook Pro is great, but I have been having so many issues with the battery and charger. I have a few friends who also have it and we all experienced battery/charger issues. My battery would only last for about 10 minutes (if I was lucky) then my computer would just shut off. I returned it to Apple and they sent me a new one, but it was such a hassel! I only had this laptop for about 3 months before it started acting up. Then after I got my new battery, my charger fried and the plastic around the wiring started to melt! It was a fire hazard and I had to talk to an apple fire hazard specialist...

I've been really happy with my new MacBook Pro as a recent convert from a lifetime of PCs. It's got great style, runs all of the sound and design programs I need, and integrates beautifully with my camera, wireless network, and anything else I've ever needed.

 The only negative was that it came with a faulty Logic Board - the screen had problems displaying solid colors without noise. It took 3 weeks to resolve the issue with the Apple Store. I feel that AppleCare was great over the phone, but the particular Apple store I visited was extremely inefficient. As an example, it took them 9 days to...

I have never owned a Mac - or used one for an extended period of time before I bought the MacBook Pro.  I was initially going to just by a MacBook - but I ended up getting the MacBook Pro because it had the bigger screen - and I am so glad I did.  Most of you might not need the bigger screen for average stuff like writing, email, web browsing and such - but if you are going to be doing stuff like using Photoshop - the bigger screen is  helpful.  I still have my PC, but eventually - I am planning on upgrading that to a Mac as well.  I honestly don't think I will ever use a PC as my primary...
