I love shimmer and glitter in certain forms. I don't like big chunks of metallic glitter, but I do love iridescent subtle color changing glitter that is very tiny- so tiny that it has subtle flashes of color- not too much.

The last thing I want is glitter that looks like I ate my daughter's latest third grade craft project.

MAC came out with a product a year or so ago that is really different than the tradtional cosmetic glitters that had been on the market. They are called REFLECTS GLITTER.

As most often is the case, each of these products is individual to the color. Some are opaque. Some are metallic. Some, however, are delightfully iridescent and duochrome.

MAC BLUE REFLECTS GLITTER is one of the most fantastic products MAC has introduced in a while.

WHAT IS MAC BLUE REFLECTS GLITTER LIKE?

MAC BLUE REFLECTS GLITTER is very tiny in particle size. It comes in a large plastic clear jar with a black cap just like MAC pigments come in. They have 7.5 g of product in them, which is a lot- about 1/8 of a cup when you measure it.

The appearance is lovely. In the jar, it looks almost white. Upon closer observation, you can see a duochromatic appearance on the particles. They change from light violet/blue to pastel pink as they are tilted in the light.

Once used on the skin, they look translucent, but the flashes of the violet/blue and pink are very obvious and pretty. What makes them look so pretty is that they look translucent so they don't look like chunks of glitter on the skin.

HOW DO YOU USE MAC REFLECTS BLUE GLITTER?

One of the best ways to use MAC REFLECTS BLUE GLITTER is to put it in lipgloss. I find that often I can just dip my finger tip or brush into the glitter and smear it across my glossed lips. Usually the glitter will stay in place a long time- even when the gloss wears off.

The translucence makes it look really beautiful as the light hits it- magnified by the shiny gloss.

The particles in this glitter are very tiny- much tinier than the traditional glitters that MAC has had over the years. Also, they do not seem gritty when used in lip products.

Another way that I like to use these glitters is to roll my lipsticks in them. The thin coating of glitter adheres to the outside, but when applying the lipstick, just a little bit gets on the lips- enough for a pretty look, but not too much.

You can also use these glitters with nail polish- sprinking it over nails as you apply the polish, or after the polish is on. They are very beautiful.

Some people love to use the MAC BLUE REFLECTS GLITTERS on the eyes, with a good mixing medium, but MAC does not recommend use around the eyes. I do know a lot of people who like them around the eyes, but again, MAC does not recommend this, so it is possible that a particle could cause problems if it falls into the eye.

IDEAS FOR USAGE

One of the newest discoveries that I have made is that I can add these glitters to shimmery lipglosses to get the same effect as one of the most popular MAC releases in a long time- DAZZLEGLASS.

I find that the best colors I have tried MAC BLUE REFLECTS GLITTER with are pinks- especially blue based pinks- reds (blue based especially), purples and violets, and even whitish based glosses or pigments.

Please keep in mind that not all reflects glitters are the same type as this BLUE color. Some of them are just tinier versions of opaque glitter reminiscent of craft glitter. I will try to review each color as I get them so you can find out which might be to your liking.

I also will be posting photos as I get a chance to take them.

MIXING MEDIUM

MAC makes a mixing medium that you mix a drop or so with to make pigments stick to the skin, and it also works with these glitters.

If you want to try to make your own, you can use vegetable glycerine with water- 1 part glycerine to 3 parts water. If you dampen a brush with it and then apply the glitter, it will work.

You have to find your own method for application that is most comfortable.

WHERE TO GET THIS

MAC BLUE REFLECTS GLITTER is a MAC PRO product. You can find it here

www.macpro.com

Look under the multipurpose section under glitter

The price is $16.50.

Although you can not order on the MAC pro site unless you have a MAC pro card (for makeup professionals), you can call their 800 number to order from, or you can call a MAC Pro store and they will ship anywhere in the US - at least they always have to my knowledge.

Once my camera is charged up, I will take a photo for you to see :)

Uh oh- the other photo disappeared! I will try to repost it again. Thanks! (Btw, if you mix it in with lipgloss or nail polish it is gorgeous- not quite so in your face ) :D

Hiya! I get mine from MAC Pro- I call via phone and order it. We have no MAC anywhere near me, which is hard- I would love to see it in person first! You are right- this stuff would be fabulous for performing. :D

Very interesting review, Caprig. Do you get yours from Nordstrom? This product would have been great when I was performing.
