Wow, this year is a banner year for MAC - at least for all of us out here who crave unique color drenched products.

MAC came out with the Naughty Nauticals collection in the last month and their selection of items was very interesting. One of the most breathtaking so far in that collection is PORT RED lipstick.

WHAT IS PORT RED LIKE?

Port Red lipstick is listed as a frost, however, it is like a brighter red version of Queens Sin lipstick from last fall's jewel-toned collection, which was a runaway hit with its intense metallic dark red appearance.

Port Red lipstick is also listed as a yellow based red. Although it does have a slighter brighter appearance, I would not say that it is as yellow based as I expected it to be. It still can be pushed to the cooler side of red using a cool dark lip liner.

The appearance of this lipstick was something that I had to determine for myself before sending for it- no one that I could find would answer my question if it was metallic in appearance like I thought it might be. The reply usually was- "meh- not really."

However, after managing to get my hands on one to try, I was elated to find out that it indeed has a lovely metallic appearance to it which really adds depth to the bright red color.

HOW DO I USE PORT RED?

Port Red is a great color because I can bring it to the warm side of things or the cool side of red using different liners. My favorite way to wear it is using black eyeliner as a lipliner and blending well. It really adds a sophisticated appearance to the lipstick which brings me lots of appreciation when I wear it- many people love it.

Using warm brown liners I can bring it to a burgundy appearance and using red liner, I can bring it to the old mid 1900's style red lipstick of the old movies.

FINAL COMMENTS

Port Red is another color that I have been waiting for years for. It is perfect for me. Not overly moisturizing, it still brings out the most beautiful perspective of red in a lipstick. It adds dimension to lips and using just a touch of red gloss in the middle of the lips- the effect is fantastic.

You can still find Port Red at various MAC counters and stores, although it sold out on line pretty quickly. Sometimes they do get in additional shipments at MAC- so if you see this, and are a fan of intense red lipsticks- GRAB IT.
