One color that MAC has not come out with to my liking has been a true lemon yellow. They have come out with colors that SEEM to be lemon until I get them home and they are always too goldish in hue for me, or else they are like lemon pudding in color.

However, that has all changed with the release of MAC's new NEON PIGMENT in ROCK-IT YELLOW. FINALLY! MAC has come out with a true lemon yellow color that I can use for accents in makeup.

WHAT IS ROCK-IT YELLOW NEON PIGMENT FROM MAC LIKE?

The color of ROCK-IT YELLOW NEON PIGMENT from MAC is what I would call a true LEMON yellow. I would not say that it is neon, however. I am including a comparison photo for you with a TRUE NEON yellow and MAC's other favorite yellow (in lieu of a true lemon) Chrome eyeshadow.

The color is a nice clean lemon color, although bright in the container, it is very sheer when applied- leaving the transclucence to give more of a glowy look than a painted on neon look. That is a nice feature, in my opinion.

HOW DO YOU USE ROCK-IT YELLOW?

MAC has come out with many professional pigment colors over the years which claim not to be eye safe. If you are familiar with the US hair market- similar claims are made with hair products that are designed for use by professional licensed hair stylists.

So it is with MAC professional makeup products as well. MAC Neon Pigment in ROCK-IT Yellow is from the MAC Pro line of products. It is permanent for now and is designed for use by professionals.

If used with a heavy eyeshadow base it would most likely work on many people, however, I strongly suggest that you try it first in a small spot on one side to be sure you will not have any problems with it.

Sometimes the dyes in the stronger colored pigments are strong enough to cause allergic reactions in some people. Just use caution.

I have used many MAC PRO pigments over heavy bases after experimenting with them first and have had no problems at all. The red based pigments are usually the most challenging for many people, however, so if you are sensitive, test!

I find that using MAC Fluidlines, MAC Liquidlast liner, and / or Too Faced Shadow Insurance primer is a good insulation for me.

I do not think that a simple thin layer of primer such as the Shadow Insurance will be enough, given the nature of the product. It is better to layer on a few layers of protection just to be careful not to have any problems.

ROCK-IT YELLOW NEON PIGMENT can be sheered way down to be just a glowy lemon or it can be built up nicely as well for a more strong yellow color.

HOW TO APPLY

I use MAC brush # 222, 217, and 239 for applying a pigment with the texture of ROCK-IT yellow. The texture is very light and finely milled so it blends well and is not as patchy as previous MAC matte textures were.

I use 222 or 217 for making a wash over the skin, and I use MAC 239 to pack it on for a more vivid look- packing carefully to make sure it is not going to flake off at all.

If you put any mixing medium or water with these pigments, they do tend to dull down some- so keep that in mind. It is better if you make the surface damp that you will use it on, and then put additional layers on top so that the matte dry appearance stays brighter if that is what you are going for.

This product can be used for face art, and although it is lip safe- I am not sure who would want lemon yellow lips!

ALERT!

MAC pigments usually come filled with 7.5g for $19.50. This is not the case with some of their pigments, including all of the neons. They are filled with only 2.5g of product which is LESS THAN HALF of the others.

Don't expect your container to be filled up- it won't. The price is the same as the others.
