I have chosen to review some of the MAC products individually rather than in groups because many of them are so different from each other, and they are limited edition as well. This allows me to post photos that are easy to look through and explore.

The latest furor over MAC products is about a new collection that just came out to the store counters today called NAUGHTY NAUTICALS.

The idea of NAUGHTY NAUTICALS is a ship theme with various names of products associated with it. Many who are avid collectors of MAC pigments flocked to see this collection because it has three previous unreleased pigment colors in it with one pre-released color called Lovely Lily.

One of the most anticipated colors of this collection is MUTINY. MAC has yet to release a true aqua pigment and many have been chomping at the bit to get one. Mutiny promised to be just that- a beautiful shimmery aqua pigment with gold shimmer to it- sound beautiful?

It did to me that is for sure.

WHAT IS MUTINY PIGMENT REALLY LIKE?

MAC NAUGHTY NAUTICALS collection promises the following:

"Pigment is a highly concentrated loose colour powder that contains ingredients to help it adhere to the skin. Pigment comes in an excellent range of colours. Use to create a subtle wash of colour or an intense effect. Pigment.."

The description of Mutiny specifically is clean sky blue with gold pearl.

Now to most who are not familiar with MAC pigments this might sound like a good pigment to start out with. However, to those of us who collect them, the deception is just starting.

I have no MAC counter to see what I am buying and the problem is that MAC releases so little of some of their collections that oftentimes they sell out before I get a chance to see them. Therefore I often have to buy hot colors before they are gone and hope for the best.

I ordered this pigment counting on it being a lovely green blue color different than anything previously released- many said it was so.

When I opened it, I saw that it was a pretty light aqua, but when I swatched it on my hand, I got upset.

It is almost identical to one of my least favorite pigment colors ever released by MAC- Azreal Blue.

WAYS TO USE MUTINY PIGMENT FROM NAUGHTY NAUTICALS

You can use Mutiny pigment in several ways:
-you can use it dry as a wash with a fluffy brush
-you can press it on lids as an eyeshadow
-you can mix it into nailpolish
-you can use it as a highlighter
-you can use it with a damp brush as a metallic shadow
-you can use it dry to press over eyeliner before it dries
-you can mix it with a liquid liner
-you can use it wet as an eyeliner by itself

WHAT IS THE TEXTURE LIKE?

The texture of Mutiny is similar to the finish of Azreal blue, but it seems to apply a bit spottier than Azreal blue. The shimmer is more white than Azreal blue which is a silvery shimmer.

The texture is finer than the older texture of MAC pigments, but it is not as powdery as some of the newer pigments such as Fairylite, or Emerald Green.

FINAL COMMENTS

MUTINY PIGMENT from the NAUGHTY NAUTICALS collection is not clear sky blue- it is a very faded blue- almost like that on overcast days just before the sky goes gray.

I am very disappointed in this pigment, mostly because the description from MAC is way off, but also because they just released Azreal Blue not too long ago and I feel that it is misleading to make it sound like a new and different color, when on skin it really is not.

The quality is okay, but nothing fabulous and the finish is just meh. Quite honestly, this color is nothing that you can not find in ordinary eyeshadow lines. MAC pigments are supposed to be a cut above the rest- professional, unique and useable.

This is just another rehash of a previous release. I am sad I bought it.

If you are a MAC pigment collector, beware- you can mix Azreal Blue and Clear Sky Blue and get this color - with very little Clear Sky Blue pigment. Save yourself some money. :(

WHO MIGHT WANT THIS COLOR

If you do not collect MAC pigments and you really love icy blue with a hint of aqua in it, then you might love this color. Quite a few people are enjoying it. I just wanted to prepare everyone so they were not expecting a beautiful sky blue with gold shimmer because this just does not fit the bill.

IF you can see this in person at a MAC counter or store, that is the best way. If you order this online, just be prepared that it will look different than the description.

I am not giving it a thumbs up because I think that it is too much like a lot of other colors to justify spending that much money on it, however, like I said, if you love icy colors you might like this.

WHERE TO FIND THIS

You can find this online at
www.maccosmetics.com

or at local MAC counters in various department stores or freestanding MAC stores or MAC Pro stores.
