MAC Mercenary from Style Warriors Collection Review

It takes a LOT for me to actually purchase a nail polish.  I have to fall in love with the color, texture and intensity of the polish before I will even give it a second look.  But if I am going to spend any serious money on a nail polish, it had better make me almost gasp with the beauty of it.

Last summer I saw such a nail polish at SEphora.  It was by Christian Dior and the name of it was Gold Nugget.  I tried it on at the sample stand, and was instantly in love.  The color was a gorgeous bronzey metallic dark based dream.  The result was like dipping my nails in liquid metal.  There was one problem- the polish cost a small fortune and it sold out almost instantly across the entire US.

This week, MAC just released a new collection called STYLE WARRIORS.  The essence of the collection is bronzey metallics, and you guessed it- they have a nail polish that looks just like the Christian Dior sensation that sold out so quickly last year.

WHAT IS MERCENARY LIKE?

MERCENARY NAIL POLISH by MAC from the STYLE WARRIORS collection is the same exact metallic gorgeous dark based bronze that DIOR's GOLD NUGGET was last year.  The difference is that DIOR has a much more dense particle composition than MAC does.  In other words, you have to apply about three layers of MAC MERCENARY to equal one coat of DIOR GOLD NUGGETS.

That is fine with me, however, because this color is SO lucious that I don't mind the extra time to achieve the same effect as the DIOR.  It is worth it.  I do wish it was a thicker consistency and had a bit better coverage, though.

The color is a unique one in that it is warm and bronzey but also goes well with cool colors too.  That is hard to find in a metallic color.

QUALITY?

The quality of MERCENARY is not bad at all.  I put Mercenary on side by side to compare it with the DIOR GOLD NUGGET and I found that they are wearing the same as far as durability goes.

WIth a good base coat and top coat (I like Seche best or Essie for top coats) this polish stays on for several days- unless I have heavy work to do in water for long periods, then it is touch and go- but it is that way with most polishes.

I love the cap of the MERCENARY MAC nail polish- it is rubberized black cap that is plenty big enough to hold.  It allows me to apply polish really well and pretty precisely.  Some nail polishes are hard to apply because of slippery caps.

FINAL COMMENTS

MERCENARY is going to sell out fast so if you want a very unique nail polish color that is PERFECT for summer, grab this while you can.  The price is $11 a bottle for 10ml of polish (.34 oz).
