MAC Love Knot Lustreglass from Naughty Nauticals collection —

MAC came out with the long anticipated NAUGHTY NAUTICALS launch a couple of weeks ago. In this collection were an assortment of pigment powders, eyeshadows, eyeliners, mascara, nailpolish, lipglosses and lipsticks all centered around the Naughtical theme.

One of the things in this launch that really caught my eye was something that I have been waiting a long time for- a nice pink lipgloss with blue duochromatic shimmer in it. Lancome had a lipgloss that I still love that is now discontinued called Superstar Star Gloss.

Ever since then, I have waited for a line to introduce another form of pink/blue duochrome lipgloss and finally this is it.

LOVE KNOT is the name of this gloss. It is not a LIPGLASS which is MAC's name for their typical lip gloss line. This is a LUSTREGLASS. the texture is supposed to be more shiny and less sticky than their LIPGLASS.

WHAT IS LOVE KNOT LIKE?

Because every pigment acts differently in every makeup product, it is impossible to lump them all together in a bunch. LOVE KNOT LUSTREGLASS is in a clear tube with a wand, similar to LIPGLASS, but in this case, instead of a sponge applicator, it has a brush.

The black top screws off and the brush applies the product more precisely than the sponge, but the brush has a tendency to split when putting it back into the container, leaving it splayed a bit if you are not careful.

The color is a Bazooka Bubblegum Pink with a lovely blue/violet shimmer in it. Some people feel that this shimmer is very obvious, and others say they can hardly see it.

I fall inito the middle category. I can see it, but it is not outstanding at all. In fact, I would like to see more.

The texture is not sticky at all, although after wearing it a while, it can make the lips feel just a little tacky. This might annoy some people. LIPGLASS gets similar in texture in the later formulations as well.

There is very little scent in this gloss, in fact, I have a hard time smelling much in it. What I can smell is reminiscent of vanilla icing, but again it is VERY faint.

WHAT DO I THINK OF LOVE KNOT?

I think LOVE KNOT is a really pretty color. The shimmer in it gives a lovely bluish hue to the lipgloss, but not so much that you can really see BLUE. It just creates a little interest and depth to the gloss.

I like the pink color- it is warmer than the usual pink lipglosses I have found with blue shimmer in them. That makes this a bit unique.

The gloss itself goes on semi sheer. There is a lot of coverage for a gloss, but not so much that it is opaque. The blue gives the pink an ethereal appearance and it looks very lovely on a cool based person. I am not sure how well this would do on someone who is used to wearing warm colors.

Longevity is pretty decent. I only have to reapply once an hour or so- it does keep my lips moist too, which is a plus. I also do not experience excessive peeling of my lips, which happens with many lip products from various lines.

IN CASE YOU MISSED DAZZLEGLASS

There is another line of lipglosses from MAC that captured the makeup world by storm recently- and that is the DAZZLEGLASS collection. Hardly a day has gone by that someone has not raved about these lipglosses.

The problem with DAZZELGLASS is that there was only about 1/4 as much product for more money as there is in the LUSTREGLASS containers.

If you really wanted a DAZZLEGLASS or wanted more of them, you can take a product made by MAC which is completely delightful and mix it with LOVE KNOT.

This product is called REFLECTS BLUE GLITTER. I will be reviewing this product soon- as it is one of the best products MAC has come out with in a while.

It is an iridescent duochromatic sheer microglitter that is part of the secret of Dazzleglass's appeal. When mixed into LOVE KNOT, what you get is a stellar copy of the DAZZLEGLASS effect.

The blue reflects make a glittery appearance without the grittiness of traditional glitter. It is the same color as the shimmer in LOVE KNOT so it compliments it nicely.

It reminds me of a more intense version of Baby Sparks Dazzleglass.

FINAL COMMENTS

You can still find LOVE KNOT at many MAC counters, online (if out of stock they usually restock it at least once before it is unavailable), or at MAC stores.

Well, like I said in the review, I know for sure that people who look good in cooler colors love this lipgloss, but I have not played with it for warmer looks yet. I am thinking that because of the warmer base to the pink and the understated blue tone it would probably work for some warmer toned people- especially those who can wear clear bright warm colors like aqua, lime, peach, coral, bright violet, and other spring palette colors. I will try to update my review as I experiment with it more in the warm category. Thanks for taking the time to comment!

I found your review very interesting? Are any skin types this color would be more flattering near?
