What I am about to review here is one of MAC's best kept secrets.

Have you ever wanted that perfect color lipstick, but nothing out there works for you?

Well, Lipmix from MAC Pro could be just the thing for you.

WHAT IS MAC LIPMIX?

MAC LIPMIX is a clear tube of pure lipstick pigment. It is very thick and pigmented and you get 10mg (.33 fl oz) of product- which is a great deal since you can mix up a long lasting lipstick from these products.

Lipmix is designed for use by professional makeup artists to mix on site any color they want to use for clients. They are intense pigments, longwearing, and do not have the additives the lipsticks do.

WHAT IS MAC LIPMIX IN CRIMSON LIKE?

Because each color has different properties I am going to review them each separately to make it easier to read the reviews.

MAC LIPMIX in CRIMSON is a beautiful true blue red- if you like that Hollywood red lip look, this is an excellent base to start with. There is no shimmer in this one, it is matte red- very bright.

WHAT DO YOU DO WITH MAC LIPMIX IN CRIMSON?

To use MAC LIPMIX in CRIMSON, you start on a flat dish or back of your hand and put a tiny dab of LIPMIX on your hand. (It is very concentrated and thick- sort of like toothpaste, but a bit drier).

Once you have a dab- you don't have to use much- you can add other colors of lipmix to it and get a color you like.

Some ideas:

You can add burgundy for a dark vampy look

You can add pink for a bright red-pink look with shimmer

You can add blue for a bluer look

You can add fuchsia for a fuchsia red look.

You can add gold for a shimmery gold look.

(I will be reviewing quite a few colors in this line so you can see photos and learn about them if you desire).

OTHER IDEAS FOR LIPMIX USE

You can also use LIPMIX in CRIMSON to perk up that red that you do not really like in a lipstick you might have purchased. I like to use tiny covered jars for this, that way if I get a color I really like, it is protected and I can use it again later in stead of mixing it each time.

Scrape lipstick in the jar or on plate or palette.

Mix a tiny dot of CRIMSON LIPMIX with the lipstick.

Blend well with toothpick or non abosorbable object.

Use brush to apply.

FINAL COMMENTS

You can use LIPMIX as a base and add gloss to it if you like and you can also mix in moisturizing elements to it as well if you find it drying just plain.

LIPMIX IN CRIMSON stains pretty well, so keep this in mind when you work with it. You want to be careful not to get it where you don't want stain.

LIPMIX removes with makeup remover or cleanser usually very well, although CRIMSON does sometimes leave a little stain behind.

CRIMSON LIPMIX saves a lot of money. I know a lot of people who buy many lipsticks in red looking for that PERFECT color. With a few colors of LIPMIX, you can change an *off* lipstick to be the perfect color.

LIPMIX is $11.50

You have to get these from MAC Pro stores, but if you don't have one in your area, you can go to

www.macpro.com

Look up to see what MAC pro stores are listed and call them. They will allow you to order via phone although you can not order online or see prices unless you are a professional card holder.

You can also call 1-800-387-6707 for more information on MAC Pro products too. Sometimes they will let you order there and sometimes not if you do not have a card, but the Pro stores when called direct are usually very good about it.

PHOTO NOTE

It is very difficult to capture the colors accurately on photos- this pigment in person is far more intense than it is showing up in the photos.

This is good info to know. My daughter is a big MAC fan and every year I get her the holiday lip collections. She loves to mix shades together to create her ideal color. I'll have to pass this on to her. Excellent review!
