MAC Lipmix in Black —

Everywhere you look you see black - black eyeshadows, black lipsticks, black nail polishes- this Fall, the BLACK vamp look is very IN.

I don't know about you, but when it comes to something as trendy as black, I know I won't wear it much unless it is really unique or interesting- and even then, black is not on my MUST HAVE list.

As a makeup artist, however, I like to keep up with the trends and have them available when they are requested.  When it comes to black products though- why pay $20+ for a high end black lipstick, when I can make my own variations to my heart's content for $12.50?

What I am talking about is one of the best kept secrets in the makeup industry.  MAC has a product which is fantastic for those mad scientists who love to make unique makeup combinations.

LIPMIX!

WHAT IS BLACK LIPMIX LIKE?

Highly highly pigmented, lipmix is the base pigment used to make lipsticks intense.  You can use it with other lipsticks to alter their color.  You can mix them with clear gloss to make them into a great color.  You can also use them on their own, but they tend to be drying.

BLACK LIPMIX is delightful.  I use it to darken colors that are too light (a tiny bit goes a long way).  I also use it as a base for very dark vampy colors that are big this fall.

BLACK LIPMIX comes in a 10ml tube (.33 fl oz) with a fine tip on it.  The texture is cream- no shimmer.  The high pigmentation allows you to use this as a darkener or as a base in itself to spin off of.

HOW TO USE BLACK LIPMIX?

In addition to the darkening of light reds or other colors you want to bring down, I am using BLACK LIPMIX as a base to make unique duochrome lipcolors for this fall.

SOme things that I like to add are:

Teal reflects glitter (MAC PRO)

Blue reflects glitter (MAC PRO)

Purple lipmix or gloss

clear lipglass (MAC)

Ruby red microglitter (MAC has one but there are others)

Lime shimmer

Red Interference shimmer (sweetscents.com)

Pink Reflects glitter (MAC)

Violet interference or pro gloss (sweetscents.com and MAC)

COMMENTS

The smooth pigmentation of the BLACK LIPMIX makes it dilute very smoothly into a nice sheer gloss.  With the added glitters and shimmers, the effect is very fun.  I plan to put some photos up here as I develop new combinations for those of you who are adventurous and want to save some money yet have the high end combination that will even beat the department store companies and what they are offering.

You can get MAC PRO LIPMIX at any MAC Pro store- you can call on the phone and order them even if you are not a MAC Pro member- you will just pay full price.

I am having SO much fun with this base, and love having it available to darken colors of lipsticks that I just don't like.  After adding a tiny touch of black, it can turn a very brash color into something much more sophisticated.

Alone, black lipmix is boring and non-dimensional, but as a base, it is fantastic!

SWATCHES

If you click on the tiny photos to the right of this review, they will enlarge so you can see them in greater detail.  I plan to update as I come up with many unique mixtures of vampy lipsticks for fall time.  The first blue/teal mix is really crazy, but I plan on coming out with a really nice ruby glitter one too eventually.
