Brand new on the shelves today is a new MAC collection called Naughty Nauticals. The theme is sailor-ish and the colors are a mix of blues, pinks, and reds.

I was intrigued when I read of how different and exciting this collection was supposed to be. Because I have photos to share and each color is individual, I am rating each pigment from this collection on its own.

Many people are asking about Naughty Nauticals and Bell Bottom Blue pigment that I wanted to take a moment to share with anyone who is interested to know if this pigment is all that.

WHAT IS BELL BOTTOM BLUE LIKE?

Here is what MAC pigments are according to MAC's description of what they are supposed to be like :

"Pigment is a highly concentrated loose colour powder that contains ingredients to help it adhere to the skin. Pigment comes in an excellent range of colours. Use to create a subtle wash of colour or an intense effect. Pigment.."

Bell Bottom Blue is described by MAC on the site as a frosty dirty blue with white pearl.

Yes, this is accurate.

Bell Bottom Blue is a pretty blue. It has navy with a hue of purplishness to is. There is a hint of pink, and white microglitter in it as well. There is plenty of shine and shimmer. It leaves a nice solid hue on it that is navy with little tiny white glitters that remind me of stars in the sky.

WHAT IS THE TEXTURE LIKE?

Each of MAC pigments come in different textures. Bell Bottom Blue is a semi smooth texture from a fine grind. It is not as powdery as Fairylite or Provence pigments, but it is not as high coverage as the old Frozen White, or Pink PEarl formulations are either. IT is halfway in between.

The longevity of this pigment is pretty good. It goes on pretty smooth and is blendable.

WHAT IS THE COLOR LIKE?

If you like navy blues with a twist, by all means get this pigment. It is unique and fun.

If you are a MAC pigment collector- BEWARE. This blue is just a rehash of other colors MAC has already released under other names. In short, it is a base of cornflower blue with a shot of Blue Storm pigments and a touch of white reflects in it, perhaps MAC's reflect pearl or reflects silver micro glitter.

This is NOT a new color, it is so close to the other colors that I am sad I bought it.

However, if you do not have the colors I previously mentioned, then you might like this. It is a pleasant mixture.

HOW CAN YOU USE BELL BOTTOM BLUE FROM NAUGHTY NAUTICALS COLLECTION?

With Bell Bottom Blue pigment you have many options of how to use it.  You can:

-use it dry with a fluffy brush as a wash
-use it dry and pat it on the lids for a shadow
-use it with a damp brush for a more metallic appearance
-press it with a liner brush over wet liner before it sets
-mix it with liner
-use it wet with mixing medium for a liner (you can mix your own 3 parts water, 1 part glycerine)

-put it in nail polish
-sprinkle it over wet nails
- mix with mixing medium and use it for face art

FINAL COMMENTS

Although I personally am not happy that this was previously released as other colors so simlar to this, it is still a nice pigment and I do recommend it if you love dark blues. It is nice and has depth to it and I think you can do a lot with it.

If you can split a container with someone, all the better.
