MAC 187 Duo Fiber Face Brush —

Makeup is a way that we enhance our appearance to feel better and look better in our society. One thing that I have learned as a makeup artist is that without the right brushes, makeup can only look so good, but not professional in quality.

One of the best discoveries that I have made in makuep is the use of a brush that is called various things. I have heard it called a SKUNK brush, a FOUNDATION BRUSH, a TWO TONE BRUSH, and a STIPPLING BRUSH.

The best brush of this nature that I have found so far is the brush from MAC cosmetics called the 187 DUO FIBRE FACE BRUSH.

WHAT IS THIS BRUSH LIKE?

The MAC 187 brush is a two tone fibre brush. There are natural black fibers at the bottom that are shorter. These fibers are to make the longer white synthetic fibers stand apart from each other more so that the brush can distribute product in a lighter fashion across the skin.

There is a black painted wooden handle and a silver ferrule (what holds the bristles in place)

HOW DO YOU USE THIS BRUSH?

The top of the MAC 187 brush is flat. This allows for excellent distribution of powder or cream/liquid foundation across the skin. The bristles are spaced apart some so that it allows for you to take an intensely pigmented blush or foundation and apply it much lighter than if you used a regular heavily bristled brush.

BLUSH

Lightly sweep the top of the brush across the blush cake, making sure to load up enough product to apply, but not so much that you will have a red face.

Lightly swirld in circular motions around the cheeks, across nose, forehead and chin. Think where you would be sunburned if you were in the sun too long and go for those areas.

Lightly swoosh around the face at first so that all of the product is not in one place.

This will give you a light true blushy glow and not red/pink/coral splotches on your face

MINERAL MAKEUP

Dip the top of the brush in just a tiny bit of mineral makeup in the cover of the container or some other flat place- you don't need more than and 1/8 tsp= probably about half of that.

Then swirl the brush around until the makeup is up into the bristles and then apply to the entire face and neck using circular motions.

Again, move the brush around at first to distribute product evenly and then you can go back around to blend better.

CREAM/LIQUID FOUNDATION

Put a dab of foundation on the back of your hand or on a flat place.

Swirl the brush lightly around to make sure to get your bristles evenly coated with product.

Swirl around the face as much as you can to distribute the foundation evenly around face and neck. Make sure to hit your ears.

Blend with the brush- you may have to reload the brush once, depending on coverage you want.

MINERALIZED SKINFINISH

There is a product from MAC called Mineralized Skinfinish which is a shimmery lightly colored product that adds glow to the face. Laura Geller has a similar line of marbled products as well.

This brush is an excellent way to apply it- in fact, I would never apply it WITHOUT the MAC 187. The 187 allows for a truly natural glow instead of a glitter ball look.

Swirl the product lightly on cake and then around face- usually I use them on the sunburn areas that I described earlier for a healthy glow.

FINAL COMMENTS

You can get the MAC 187 brush at any MAC counter, MAC store, or MAC PRO store. You can also get them at

www.maccosmetics.com
www.macpro.com

I would not be without my MAC 187 brush- it is one of the most valuable and important brushes in my entire makeup collection.

Despite the high price tag of $42, it is worth the price. You can try other lines of brushes for similar styles of brushes, but I find that MAC has the best version of all of them.

However, if you are just starting out, you might try another brush line if you can not possibly afford the MAC version.

Kohls has a FLIRT brush that is an alternative, but you will get much nicer results with the MAC. I have found that it is a better investment to get the MAC right off the bat.

They just started to sell MAC at our local Macy's here in Wisconsin. I saw that and thought of you. I will have to give them a try now since I can find them :)
