Lypsyl Lip Balm —

Quick View: Lipsyl Lip Balm is great. It lasts a long time on my lips and truly softens and hydrates them. I am a lip balm junkie and have dozens of brands but I think Lipsyl Lip Balm is one of the best I have - in any price range.

About Lipsyl Lip Balm

I buy lip balms every time I go to a store that sells them. I usually use Carmex when I need a thick, tingly balm and flavored balms for fun and some hydration. I saw Lipsyl Lip Balm at the check out  at Rite Aid and tossed a tube into my "to buy" stuff. I wasn't expecting much but I really like how this simple balm works.

This .1 ounce tube of balm comes in original and a few other varieties. I have the original formula. The tube is slim and there is a little slider on the side to push up the clear, solid balm. It smells minty and immediately starts tingling when I put it on. I love that tingle! This isn't a thick balm but it coats the lips very well in just a pass or two of the stick.

Lipsyl Lip Balm is made with organic shea butter, pure Vitamins A&E, coconut oil, and other ingredients that nourish lips. It slicks on and leaves a very subtle shine behind. I can actually feel it going to work on my dry lips. The thing I like best about Lipsyl Lip Balm is that I can apply it at night and, when I wake up in the morning, my lips still have some of the balm on them. That means the product was working all night to soothe and hydrate my lips. It lasts way longer than any other lip balm I have used.

This product can be used over lip stains and lipstick but the strong minty scent may be a turn off if you're going out. I love it and have no problems with the strong scent. It opens up my sinuses! There is no flavor that I can discern which, for a chronic lip licker like me, is a good thing. I tend to lick off the flavored balms in short order, making my lips even drier.

This is really good stuff for people who are serious about lip hydration and soothing. It works on lip irritations, cracks, chapped lips, and protects lips from further damage. I don't see on my tube that there is any SPF in this balm which would have been welcome but I use it mostly indoors so a sunscreen isn't usually necessary for me. When I'm in the sun, I use a special balm with SPF 25 or higher in it on my lips.

My Viewpoint

Move over Carmex, Lipsyl Lip Balm just took your place! I still like Carmex but Lipsyl lasts longer, has a similar tingle, and is less messy to use. It's great stuff and only around $3.00-$3.50 a tube. I would go with 5 stars but it would be convenient if it had SPF in it so I will go with 4. But it works great for me!

Different lip things are good for different conditions. Ditto with moisturizers. Guess we'll never find true beauty products love! (More interesting that way, anyway.)

Well, if you find any please share the web address with me. Patty, I have never felt something so slick on my lips and I was so surprised when I put it on after taking a bath one night and the next morning my lips were still nice and moist. I have a little basket on my computer hutch with a variety of lip balms and I am always going after the Simple Pleasures. If you found the 6-pack at Kohl's and it was sold out then I bet that was the holiday stuff that I was speaking of. Now I too will be looking for it!!

I saw some individual flavors being sold on eBay and I saw a zippered bag at Kohl's as well but it was out of stock. I saw there is a juicy or fruity bag with 6 tubes for $3.99 but I can't FIND it to buy. And now I am obsessed. Sigh.

Thanks for finding my product--that is it but I don't remember having 7 tubes but I guess I did. I bought 3 different sets (2 of the holiday collection and the candy/lollipop). I gave one to my best friend's granddaughter and then Halie and I gave each other 3 of our flavors so that we had the holiday and lollipop flavors. I'll research it some more to see if I can find my flavors and then I will post a review!

Blistex but my favorite of all is a brand that I got from Kohl's during the holidays. I am having a difficult time finding the item to review it because all it says on the tubes is Simple Pleasures but for some reason I'm thinking it's manufactured by Tri-Coastal Designs. They came in a little zipper holiday pouch with 6 tubes. I'm wondering if it's only a seasonal thing. Hey, perhaps they would have some with an Easter design. Hmmm...maybe I will get a little dolled up and go out today after all ;+)

I just like to have 50 lip balms at my disposal. It's silly to have so many but I haven't found THE one yet. The one that is everything and i never will. So I have 50. lol.

Thanks for the info! I've gone back to an oldie but goody -- Boroleum. Seems to help, especially when allergies around the lips are an issue. I AM getting Lypsyl though. Our weather changes so rapidly re humidity/dry heat that I need a number of products for everything skin-related.

I have two lip balm brands that when applied at bedtime are still very moist in the morning.

I usually use a lip primer before lipstick which is like a balm and wrinkle filler in one. The primer makes lips a neuteral shade so the color is true since we all have different shades of lips. I like CO Bigelow's tinted balms as well as Jane be Pure's balms. They have more tint than most and are like a balm and a sheer lipstick in one.

I just ordered the Eucalyptus at drugstore.com because I just had to know what it smelled like. That is more medicated than the original which is meant to protect and soften the lips.

It's a sickness, this lip balm junkie stuff! I have a baggy filled with all kinds but I know which I love and which I won't buy again now. The sad thing is I love fruity flavored balms but they usually aren't the good ones!

In response to GigiandAdonai's comment from Apr 8, 2009 at 3:13PM:

This one doesn't feel waxy although it has Swedish beeswax in it. I would say maybe a 2 on the scale but much less than Chap Stick or similar sticks. It isn't super thick at all and is very lightweight but lasts.

GigiandAdonai wrote on Apr 8, 2009 at 3:13PM

I read the product name too quick and thought it said Lysol. I was like WOW--Lysol is making lip balm now?

On a scale of 1-5, 5 being very waxy; how waxy do you think this stuff is? I can't stand the waxy lip balms. I love the wetter and more slick ones. ~Gigi ♫

I'm becoming a lip balm junkie. I'm going to try this one as well. Thanks for the info! :-)

TunefulGal wrote on Apr 7, 2009 at 5:07AM

Terrific review. You covered all the bases including the fact that the original Lypsyl opens up your sinuses. Just think what the eucalyptus flavor must do. My lip profile sounds just like yours. I don't remember seeing this brand, but it's got to be at my Walgreens, and I'll head that way later today. Thanks, Patty!

LadyMagic wrote on Apr 6, 2009 at 11:06PM

It's on my list - thanks for the tip! Have you ever put any lipsticks or glosses over lip balms? Any tinted lip balms you really like?
