I like this splitting maul primarily because of its 'light' weight (4 pounds). It isn't good at breaking up really big pieces, like 2 foot diameter, but it will handle larger logs than an axe. For smaller pieces it goes much faster than a sledge and wedge, and it's very satisfying when two chunks of wood going flying in different directions. I highly recommend this maul.
