Alright I wasn't planning on purchasing a bikini and I don't think I would be reviewing it either but I just had to share what a bargain I got!
Friday night Memaw, Carla and I did our monthly Girls Night Out. We had dinner at Cracker Barrel and then we went to see All About Steve (review coming). Well, Memaw is going to the Gaitherfest at Myrtle Beach this weekend so she wanted to do some shopping for her trip. I was just browsing thru the many sales racks and came across some swimsuits. I'm not that confident when it comes to buying and/or wearing them because I never can seem to find one that really fits the way I want it to.
I saw several that I really liked but of course, I'm not wanting to try them on because that would mean modeling them for Memaw and Carla and that would ultimately embarrass me because as always, "I am the cute one." Carla found several that she thought would look nice on me and at some point we both found the separate coordinates that matched each other. I took that as a sign because we both chose the same pattern, design, etc. The primary photo is MY bikini.
I liked being able to choose mix and match coordinates because that also allows for you to choose different sizes if you need them for top and bottom. Well, unfortunately with an end of the summer clearance there wasn't much to choose from in my size and there was only one size in the top and bottom I liked. They were both a small. We decided that a small was probably a 3/4 so I would probably be okay with that.
The swimsuit is part of the Lucky Brand collection and my specific design was the Free Spirit in Spearmint. The top was originally $62. It was then marked down to $30.99 and then again to $14.98 and then I got an additional 40% off so it rang up $8.99. The top has removable cups but believe me; I need every little bit I can get. When I tried this on, cups and all, it didn't enhance my flat chest one iota! What I do like about this top is that the cups don't slide across a slinky-like string. I hate those because they tend to slip around, to and fro and usually don't give me the coverage I need in the right place! The top ties around the neck and across the back. There is no clasp to deal with.
The Free Spirit bikini is made of various materials. Each piece has two parts. The print which is the exterior part and it is made of 79% Nylon and 21% Spandex and then the interior part; which sits against your flesh and this is made of 92% Polyester and 8% Spandex. The bottom fits snug on my bottom and doesn't show any signs of slipping around.
The bottom was originally $54.00 marked down to $26.99 and then to $12.98. When I got the additional 40% off it rang up as $7.79! My bottom doesn't have the little ties on the hip areas. The bottom is a hipster and isn't scanty. I like my bottoms to cover my bottoms. I always complain when shopping for 2-piece swimwear that I wish the bottoms would fit as comfortably as my panties. Well, the last bikini I bought was in 2001 so after 8 years of total frustration I finally found another bikini that meets all my expectations and then some.
My only concern at this time is that the top appears to be a little too loose. I think I probably needed an Extra Small. Wow! That really doesn't say much for my chest. Oh well. Some ladies have it and some don't. A plus for the top is that instead of having a string connecting the cups it has a band so it won't roll under your flesh. I tend to not like the string bikinis.
I love the color scheme and pattern on the Free Spirit. The Spearmint is a seafoam green color and there are violet flowers complimented with vertical sripes that do not go over the floral pattern. Out of all the swimsuits I looked at I liked this one the best because of the fancy trim on the waistband of the bottom and the outer edges of the cups. I thought that added more delicateness to the swimsuit.
I tried the bikini on when I got home and I was very pleased with the way it looked. I was actually excited to tell my sister-in-law that I got it because she has been trying to buy me a bikini for the past few years. I will probably forget I have it come next spring but I am looking forward to wearing it.
I got my Lucky Brand Free Spirit bikini at Belk Department Store. If you are wanting a new swimsuit and have a Belk near you I would tell you to check it out.
