Katherine Heigl (27 Dresses) and Dale Midkiff play in Love Comes Softly.

Plot: Love comes softly in this film about two widowers who marry for convenience.  Marty (Heigl) loses her husband soon after moving west to start a new life.  Clark (Midkiff) is a single father to a young, hard headed daughter.  Marty needs a place to stay through the harsh winter and Clark needs a womens influence in his daughters life.

What I thought: This is a wonderful film for the whole family.  The characters are believable and the story is good.  Although Love Comes Softly does deal with death, it is still a fairly...

loves comes softly is a great family movie. if you want to watch a decent family movie this is the one for you. this movie stirs just about every emotion possible, there is no bad language or scenes, it's wonderful. especially since hollywood is so set on the fact that a movie isn't good if it doesn't have cusing and sexual content in it. this movie had neither and it's a great movie. (even without those things, so stick that in your pipe and smoke it hollywood).  if you like a good love story watch this movie. it's one the whole family can watch. this movie is a little different from the book....

If you have never heard of or read any of Janette Oke's books, you are in for a wonderful surprise.   Her books are historical fiction with Christian emphasis.  You may have seen the Hallmark movies in this series directed by Michael Landon, Jr.

This story follows several families going west to make a life.  Tragedy befalls one young pregnant woman and she must make a decision to turn around or keep heading west.   The story that follows is intriquing, thought provoking and challenging.  It has a sweet ending.  But it doesn't end with this book.  This is the 1st in a series of 8 books...

Marty follows her husband out west where he is killed in a freak accident before they even get started with their new life.  Clark offers her a marriage of convenience to give her a place to live until the wagon trains resume in the spring.  In return, she is to 'mother' his daughter, Missy.  Missy wants nothing to do with her, but they slowly build a relationship and each begins to heal.

This movie takes us to the same time period as "The Little House on the Prarie" and follows the slow awakening of love by a recently widowed woman for the man who has befriended her through a marriage of convenience and her awakening of motherly feelings and love for his unruly daughter.  These are good people, characters that I admire very much.
