Here you have a classic tail of an underground artist who has now gained mainstream attention but has lost his heart along the way. I can understand the fight to be seen and heard but the magic is gone when you abandon your passion in the name of the fame game.
I have been familiar with this artist for some time and before his recent Grammy nod he sang with the heart of someone who was in it for the love of the music. The problem that has occurred is that in his quest for mainstream attention DeVaughn has ended up sounding like every other young r&b cat putting out factory styled soul music....
read full review »Now, I LOVE Raheem Devaughn. But this album is such a disappointment. I was really expecting him to come bigger and better. But he just let me down. His first album was INCREDIBLE. I loved it. But this one sucks. It's nowhere as good as the first. He's trying to conform to the mainstream audience and that made him lose his individuality.
It really deserves two stars, but since I went to see his concert (and he puts on a good show) I'll give him three.
