* Crystal-clear chestnut brown liquid; short dense light tan head (nice lacing).
* Light sweet malt aroma is underpinning for mild roasty nose.
* Foretaste of semi-sweet malt gives way to roasty, light sweet molasses flavor.
* Finish is satisfyingly full-flavored and long lasting.
* Body is medium; carbonation is subdued.
Synhopsis:
This is a surprisingly full flavored brown ale. It's got more of a roasted malt flavor than a chocolate malt flavor, though it has plenty of malt sweetness to back it up.
Downtown Brown has always been one of my favorite American-made brown ales. Note that I didn't say "American Brown Ale" as that is another style altogether. This one is not nearly hoppy enough to qualify.
