Lord of the Rings : Return of the King Review Summary

Peter Jackson's rousing finale in the Lord of the Rings trilogy is universally hailed as a cinematic landmark in epic film making. As one reviewer noted, "Even if you weren't obsessed with the books in Junior High school, this is one of the most breathtaking epic adventure films ever made." Based on the the last book of J.R.R. Tolkien's trilogy-Return of the King boasts the kind of grandeur and spectacle rarely found on the big screen as " Peter Jackson and his brilliant cast and crew wrap up this remarkable story with passion and power" Jackson brings middle-earth to a vibrant life as he unfolds the finale chapter of the struggle between men, hobbits, elves, and orcs. It boils down to war between good and evil, with the players often unwitting pawns. This tale will mesmerize casual viewers and fan boys alike with a story that " has more depth to it than any other movie I've ever seen." and beautiful cinematography that " makes you long to visit New Zealand where it was filmed." An Oscar winner for good reason, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King will remind you that movies can be high art and entertainment at the same time.

Peter Jackson's third film of the ambitious RING trilogy is the best.

Even if you weren't obsessed with the books in Junior High school, this is one of the most breathtaking epic adventure films ever made. It's fantasy and humanistic elements are blended seamlessly-at least until the film's sappy last half hour (and given the book's anti-climatic ending-Jackson's improved it).

You can quibble about all kinds of things with the films (yeah some interesting characters were left out, some character motivations given short shrift at least until extended footage is added), but they remain just quibbles...

Lord of the Rings Return of the King is the third of the trilogy and well worth it.  The music, the characters truly are exceptional.   This part is the last of the great war and the destruction of the ring.  Gandolph plays a great part in this flick.  He is what one would call a good wizard.  The war of middle earth has so much action that it keeps you at the balls of your feet wishing to see more.  The finale is one of excitement and joy.  If you were to view this movie, you would be so entertained and you wouldn't get out of your seat.  If and when your purchase this movie, you can...

The Lord of the Rings : Return of the King. Epic, thrilling, and on the edge of your seat action/adventure! With out of this world actors, and a classic story behind it, I wish there was more! J.R.R Tolken is a legendary author. I will always love his books, but, Peter Jackson brought my favorite stories to life, and it helps the imagination grow!!!

As one review mentioned, you may not want to take the little ones.  This is mostly because it is intense and terms used would not be recognizable to them.  They would get bored easily and either fall asleep or want to roam around, taking your attention from the movie.  Better to get DVDs [I am talking about all from series] so you can watch when kids are asleep, etc.

As has already been said, masterfully made, breathtaking and stunning, mystical and adventurous.  Improves on the book and on the prior animated movies.  Each movie can stand alone, though watching in order from first to last [which...

Lord of the Rings in general is my favorite book of all time, to start. I was thrilled when they said it was coming to movie but a little worried that some of the details would be lost. When I saw the first one I knew Peter Jackson had hit the nail on the head. He included almost everything that he possible could into the movies. Return of the king is amazing, the action scenes and especially the greast battle scenes are amazing. The stunt work and animation is excellent. By the time you get to the third movie you already know and love the characters, but now you are attached to them on such an... review »

This has to be one of the greatest movie/novels of all time!!  When I first heard about this movie being three hours long, I never thought I would be able to sit through it.  "WOW!" was I wrong!!  I didn't want to move.  I was amazed with the pure genoious of it!!  The actors were perfectly selected to fit each character they were portraying and The scenerie was breath taking!!  Everytime I hear of someone who has never saw this movie I tell them " OH, YOU'VE GOT TO SEE IT !!!!!"

I couldn't wait for this one to come out... I had been waiting in anticipation for years for another epic episode of this series to come out and I wasn't disappointed.  The special effects were as usual, phenomenal and the audience was packed on opening night.  I am somewhat surprised how the movies correlates pretty well with the books, as many producers and script writers take too many liberties oftentimes, but this was pretty good.  I would also recommend the Narnia movie(s) if you're into the sci-fi fantasy scene...

The Lord of the Rings Return of the King was a spectular ending to a great series.  The acting was brilliant by the main stars and even though the movie could get very slow at times I was glued to the screen the entire time.  Special features wise there was also some greatness to be found on the disc, for those that own the movie but are tired of the rings and in need of something different the easter egg on this one is the best of all three with a practical joke played on Elijah Wood by Dominic Monahayn.

It is my favorite movie. I have read the books and I believe that they are equally matched. I have seen and heard all the movies more than I can count (I even know all the words) and I still love it. But, I remember the first time I saw this movie, it had me in tears because of the wonderful plot. Even with the book read, I was still surprised at some parts because he (Peter Jackson) depicted the movie to surpass all my fantasys on how it would look as a movie. I hope you watch it and become a fan like me!

The lord of the rings saga is very mistifiying, from the characters, the gossins, and the monsters, it takes you to many exciting, some dark places and i highly recommend from the young to the old. all movie  goers you must grab the whole family and purchase or rent this wonderful tall tale that keeps you on your toes at every peek. From the beginning of how the ring came to be  and how the ring possessed such powers upon every soul that beared and dared to dorn it.

Return of the King represents the culmination of Tolkien's trilogy, and it doesn't disappoint! Peter Jackson and his brilliant cast and crew wrap up this remarkable story with passion and power. I find this movie the most inspiring of the three, and that is saying something. I recommend watching all three movies (extended version, of course!) in one marathon session. That gives you the best feel for the story arc.

I really thought that a great job was done summing up this movie.  It was filled with action and detail and if a person had not seen the previous two, would at least get an understanding of what was going on.  There was even a romantic scene when at the end he raised her face and kissed her.  And when everyone kneeled to Frodo and Sam, I started crying.  It was very touching.  Loved this movie.

Generally speaking I can't watch intense, action movies. But with all the hub these three movies got, I knew I couldn't miss it. The movie is very intense, but never gruesome or bloody. The storyline has more depth to it than any other movie I've ever seen. I've watched the trilogy twice already and will probably view it multiple more times. There's a reason for the craze - you've got to see this movie!

this is by far the best of the series.  the entire film was magnificent!  i was swept away by the scenes - the scenery makes you long to visit new zealand where it was filmed.  i couldn't believe my eyes at some of the pictures that jumped straight from the book onto the movie screen!  a masterfully, truly magnicent film that should be seen by anyone who enjoys a true epic!

I just loved the movie, The Lord of the Rings, Return of the King. I watched all of the series, and loved them. I think it is one of the greatest movies of all time. The action is unbelievable, and the actors, I just can't say enough. I would be writting a book if I say anymore. I do believe these movies are a must see. If you haven't seen them yet, your missing out.
