Be warned, this item is not for dogs that chew. I purchased this for my dog because in the store it looked like a big, sturdy toy. Unlike other brands, this item didn't really have anything on its packaging to help me determine how chewable it would be and so on, but again, it looked big, was made of hard rubber, and cost over $10 (if memory serves I actually think it was more like $15 to $20 at Petsmart) and so I thought, here's a toy I can get for my toy destructor, Tucker, my year old German Shorthaired Pointer. HA!
We got the toy home and filled it with little treats and gave it to Tucker. The treats are these little cube treats that should have come out of the holes on the ends of this chill pill without too much effort. However, not long after giving him the Chill Pill I realized that he was leaving tooth prints all over it, and that parts of the rubber were being ripped off. This was within minutes! Not an hour, not hours later, not a week later and so forth.
Frankly, I took the toy away from him and he hasn't had it back. It's been sitting on my counter. I meant to write a letter to the company about my dissatisfaction after what I had spent on the toy, but I didn't get around to it. Instead, I will warn my fellow dog lovers, searching for toys for their dogs, to not waste your money on this one. We actually first bought the smaller chill pill (my husbands idea - i didn't think that one would last) and Tucker was able to open that one (you open the toy, put the treats in and then push the two "pill" halves back together) and he not only covered it in teeth marks but he tore apart the connector, so, dumb us, we went back and got the bigger pill that the above review is about.
If anyone is familiar with this toy, I think you'd agree that it looks like a big dog toy. And, I'm sorry, when you fill something with treats, your dog is going to chew on the toy itself, so it should be made to withstand that. Or, put the truth on the packaging, this packaging says it's a "fetch & chew toy". WRONG!! If your toy can only hold up to a chihuahua chewing it, let us know that. As one of my tags says, I am willing to pay more for quality, but I get really aggravated when I buy something for a decent amount (especially when my husband always moans on what I spend on the dogs!!) and it is ruined minutes later. That's ridiculous.
I wrote a positive review for planet dog orbee tuff toys, and added comments about starmark everlasting treat balls and west paw designs huck ball and hurley bone. If you are looking for a durable item for your dog, try out one of those products. So far they have all withstood the big teeth of my GSHP and were worth the money spent. Avoid the Chill Pill!
