I have always like the quality put into every Logitech product and this is no exception to that feeling. So when my corded mouse started acting erratic with my laptop I needed to find another mouse. My old one still works good but the laptop case has gotten shiny and the old red laser on my old Logitech just doesn't want to work on it. So I put it on my desktop and replaced it with this new Logitech LX7 "Invisible" Optic Mouse

Logitech LX7 Invisible Optic Mouse

I am not sure what the difference is with this being an Invisible optic mouse other than you can't see a red light on the bottom of it...lol Anyway this is a normal sized mouse with no cord to get in the way. It does come with a Docking Stand that plugs into your USB port and then you can plug the little receiver into it or you can plug the USB Receiver directly into your computer. It depends on what your choice or situation is as to which way you do it. The box also contains an adapter to enable you to also use this on a PS/2 port. Logitech even supplies you with 2 Duracell AA batteries so it is ready to go right out of the box.

There is no disc to load or mess with, this is plug and play and works with Windows Xp, Vista and Mac. It also works with either a USB port or a PS 2 slot. You can download drivers and software from their website. There are two available programs that you can download. One is the program to change and adjust your mouse settings while the other is an auto-update program for the mouse. Once the auto-update is installed your mouse will be auto-updated for you.

The Technical Workings

This LX7 is High Definition Optical rated at 1000 dpi and is supposed to be 2.5 times more responsive so it will work for your picture editing software very well. It has Automatic Standby Mode to save your battery, which is supposed to last up to 8 months with this mouse. It also has 5 buttons on it that do a variety of different functions. You have left and right click as well as your scrolling wheel but it goes further. On the top just below the scrolling wheel are 2 small buttons...one to go back a page or pages and you can also go back forward again with the click of a button.

Then you can also tilt your scrolling wheel and move the page right or left instead of pointing to the scroll bar and dragging it...I love that little feature, so much easier and faster than the old way. Another little feature of the scroll button just tickles me silly (I know I am already there but humor me here will ya) If the page you are on can be zoomed or your looking at a picture you can press the scroll button down and Zoom in and out with the scroll wheel! Have you ever loaded a web page that you could barely read, well click on your scroll button and zoom in a bit and change the font. It works here on Viewpoints!

There is also a battery indicator on the top of the mouse in between the right and left click buttons that will flash red when your batteries are getting low. This mouse just has everything plus it looks good and feels good in your hand. The sides have a thin coating of rubber to make it non slip and more comfortable to ues.

On the bottom of the mouse you have the little door that you open to install the 2 AA batteries. You also have 2 buttons there, one to turn it on and also a reset button should you need to reset your mouse to factory settings for any reason. This LX7 also comes with a 5 year Limited Hardware Warranty. did I mention I Love Logitech!

Bottom Line

This mouse fits my hand very well and is comfortable to hold, even with my nerve damage. The ability to go backward and forward on websites is easy to use and comes in very handy. Being able to side scroll on a large web page is real nice and I think it has spoiled me from using an ordinary mouse ever again.

I had problems with a free wireless mouse I got once, but it probably was just bad b/c it was free! It only worked if I plugged the USB connection on the same side of the mouse, but the problem was my USB connection was on the OTHER side! Thanks for the review though, I may try another one :)

Love my optical mouse! It's not a Logitech but it is similar, and yes, I'm spoiled too. :)

A great review! These cordless "mice"(?) are interesting but I'm a person who tends to lose the remote control on the television and I wonder if I would end up misplacing a mouse that wasn't attached.

mrkstvns wrote on May 16, 2008 at 1:28PM

I don't want an optical mouse. I'm afraid it might be watching me.

SpokaneMan wrote on May 16, 2008 at 11:46AM

I have one of these at home, and I have to agree that they are quite comfortable to use!
